Bloom Carroll needs overtime to take care of Fairfield Union 42-35

Image
Bloom Carroll (5-8) sought their sixth win on Friday night hosting Fairfield Union, who stood (9-5). This was one of those games where both teams went through long stretches of being ice-cold from the field. Bloom Carroll went down six quickly but recovered to lead 12-10 after the opening quarter. It was good on-ball defense that provided the spark, with just enough offense to right the ship. Fairfield Union would lead 18-16 at the half as the ice-cold shooting continued for both teams, along with some nice defense. The second half followed suit with the first ice-cold shooting with pressure defense that helped create more than a handful of turnovers. Bloom Carroll led 27-26 after three. The fourth frame would provide just seven points, leaving the game tied at 30. Overtime was a case of Bloom Carroll hitting key free throws as Fairfield Union was forced to foul. The final would be 42-35 Bloom Carroll. The biggest difference in this one was Michael Stevenson coming off of the bench to ...

North Adams runs wild over Georgetown 66-43

Image
The eighth and final game of the Dave Young Classic featured the home team, North Adams, and the visiting Georgetown G-Men. This one was over as fast as it started. The Green Devils led 18-2 after the opening quarter. Georgetown could not buy a bucket, a combination of bad luck and a super-quick defense provided by the home team. At the half, this was a 32-13 game. The biggest difference, payer-wise, was the sensational play of Breestin Schweickart. He would make some circus-type baskets and throw some passes the Harlem Globetrotters would have been in awe over. Schweickart ended his night with 26 points with a handful of assists and rebounds. After three quarters, North Adams led 54-35. Isaiah Ernst (12 points) and Austin Miles (12 points) did their best to keep Georgetown in it, but it was not meant to be on this night. The final was 66-43 North Adams. The winners also got 10 points from Konor Rogers, while Aiden Werner added 10 points in the loss. Follow me on X @HEARTLANDF...

(Girls) North Adams gets by Alexander 50-42

Image
I will call this the co-main event of the Dave Young Classic. North Adams was hoping to post their tenth win of the season, while Alexander was hoping to chalk up win number eight. Early on, it appeared the Green Devils would skate away for the easy win as they led by seven after one and then by thirteen at the half, 26-13. After three it was a 15-point Green Devils lead. The final frame would see Alexander close the game to a handful or so a few times only to fall 50-42. The biggest difference in the game was Katelyn Boerger; the 6-1 senior was unstoppable at times inside, and her defense was as hard as a rock all game long. She ended her night with 16 points. Emma Pistole chipped in with 10 points. Tatum Grooms, who was as physical as any player I got to see play during the eight games the Classic had, ended with 7 points. I would bet she left a few bruises on the girls from Alexander High School. For Alexander, who seems to get more energized as the game went on, they were led by...

Eastern Brown 60 Blanchester 26

Image
Eastern Brown came in with an 8-4 record, while Blanchester was 2-11. This one got started with Eastern leading by just five after one, 13-8. Right away #20 Kaden Cromer looked like he was going to be the key for Blanchester; he started quickly for the game; he finished with half of his team's points (13). At the half, things had gotten ugly with Eastern leading 38-14. Coach Rob Beucler was substituting as quickly as a mockingbird flaps its wings. With 12 players getting in the game and with 10 of them scoring before all was said and done. The third quarter ended with Eastern leading 56-18. Braxton Vance would score 14 points as he was in and out of the game, and that might have been the only thing keeping him from scoring 40 points. In the final frame, Brayden Behymer for Blanchester hit two nice three-pointers, his only points in the game (6). Outmanned and outtalented, the one thing that showed was Blanchester was not going to quit. The final score ended 60-26.  Foll...

South Point uses big 2nd half to get by Peebles 54-43

Image
As far as I could find, Peebles came 4-5, while South Point was 4-7. As for the game, it was tight throughout the first half, with things tied at 11 after one and then at 20 after the first half. Neither team could pull away from the other. The one player that stood out in the half was Brayden Hanshaw, the 6-4 senior for South Point. He was scoring at will, ending the game with a game-high 23 points. He connected on 9 shots from the field and 5 free throws. The third quarter was all South Point as they scored 20 points, leading 40-31 as the quarter came to a close. The final score would be 54-43, with South Point posting the win. 17 players played in this one, with 15 of those scoring. After the 23 by Hanshaw for South Point, Davon Lewis had 12 points, including two threes. Ethan Layne had 11. For Peebles, Carson Reed paced the way with 12. Paxton Ryan had 10. Peebles hit three three-pointers as they relied on getting their points inside of the arc. For South Point, they total...

Western Pike Indians scalp the Manchester Greyhounds 58-38

Image
This game was part of the Dave Young Classic played at North Admas High School. Manchester came in with a 5-7 record, while Western came in at 5-4. Both teams came out with a lot of energy, though scoring was tough to come by as the two teams combined for 18 first quarter points, with each scoring 9. The Indians would outrace the Greyhounds in the 2nd quarter to lead 21-16. The quarter was physical as both teams played hard, with the Indians starting to find a little groove on the offensive end. The Indians continue to find ways to score, putting up 18 points in the third quarter, while the Greyhounds scored 12. For Western, their offense kept playing better as the defense held steady. In the final frame, Western had a 19-point quarter, pulling away for the 20-point win, 58-38. Sam Cattaneo led the winners with 15 points. He sank three three-pointers as he totaled 6 baskets overall. Kam Janes checked in with 14. He had just one three-pointer with 6 total baskets. For Manches...

Whiteoak escapes Wellston 51-48

Image
This game was part of the Dave Yong Classic played at North Admas High School. Whiteoak came in according to MaxPreps, supporting a 4-8 record, while Wilson came in 2-9 on the season. Whiteoak opened things up with an 18-8 lead after one and looked like they were going to run away from the Golden Rockets. The second quarter was a complete reverse of the first, with Wellston taming the Wildcats by locking things up at 26 at the half. The large crowd was entertained in the third quarter as both teams played physically and very hard, with the Golden Rockets taking the 39-36 lead heading into the final frame. A 15-9 run by the Wildcats gave them the 51-48 win. Sophomore Wes Briggs led all scorers with 19 points in the defeat. He hit 2 threes in the game, with a total of 8 field goals. Devin Barnhill came off of the bench to score 10 points, with 3 big three-pointers. The kid has a nice touch from the corner. Leading the Wildcats with 18 apiece were Sawyer Blair and Brady Bandenbu...

West Union owns Portsmouth Clay 61-31

Image
This game was part of the Dave Young Classic at North Adams High School. West Union started out strong, leading 15-8 after one period, and never looked back. They would use their speed and pressure defense to take a 32-16 lead at the half. The second half would be much of the same with West Union using some nice outside shooting and ball movement to out score clay 29-15 in the second half. Leading the winners with 16 points, including three three-pointers, was Gavin Jarvis. Jarvis had just 5 baskets from the floor, with 3 free throws. Trae Grooms would add 12 points on 4 buckets and 4 free throws. For Clay, Isaiah Whitt had 8 points with 2 three-pointers. West Union improves to 3-6 on the season, while Clay drops to 0-11. Northridge Vikings escape Lakewood Lancers 42-37

Image
Hebron, Ohio— On Friday night the Northridge Vikings came calling on the Lakewood Lancers. For the Vikings, they were seeking their fifth win of the season, while the Lancers were hoping to gain just their third win of the season. The Vikings would lead after one quarter 13-9, behind 8 points from Jake Davis. Davis would total a team-high 13 points on the night. The Vikings outscored the Lancers 116 in the 2nd quarter. The Lancers would pass the ball 10 times or so on each possession and usually settled for one shot as the Vikings seemed to dominate the boards. The third quarter with the Vikings leading 36-23. Both teams would pass around a lot before taking a shot. For the Vikings it made sense, but for the Lancers it was head-scratching, being they were behind by double digits. In the final frame the Lancers never hurried at all but still cut the lead to three at one point before losing by five. The Vikings never seem to panic even though they were ice cold during the quarte...

2025 Interview with Ty Harper former head coach CSP (NY.)

Image
Ty Harper CSP (NY)  Former Head Coach, OC, DLine Coach College: St. John Fisher (D3, New York) What was the toughest part of the 2024 season? The hardest part of the ‘24 season was that it ended. We had so many tremendous kids, many of whom I have known since they were in 4th grade. When you have to say goodbye to those kids, and you realize that you’ll never be at practice with them again, it’s really tough. Obviously, winning another state title was the high mark of the season. With that said, what were some of your favorite moments during the season? There were many. We do a lot in the offseason to prepare ourselves, and this year we participated in the State 7-on-7 tournament at SUNY Cortland in July. A lot of the guys and their families stayed at a hotel out there, and it was a great experience—we won the tournament, the kids had a great time, and we made friends with a local couple that ended up following us throughout the season and drove across the state to wa...

Winning the first-ever road playoff game in school history. That was only the second playoff win in school history. That was a historic moment for our senior class and community. How important is it to you that all of the lower levels throughout the program play a full schedule? The lower levels playing a full schedule is so important to the overall program. I am big on our youth football, junior high, and JV football teams playing as many games as possible. The more reps and live action kids get, the more their confidence and skill grow. Should all teams in the program run the same base offense and defense? Explain: All teams in your program run base O and D. I think it is beneficial when all levels are teaching the same concepts and speak...
