(Girls) North Adams gets by Alexander 50-42


I will call this the co-main event of the Dave Young Classic. North Adams was hoping to post their tenth win of the season, while Alexander was hoping to chalk up win number eight.

Early on, it appeared the Green Devils would skate away for the easy win as they led by seven after one and then by thirteen at the half, 26-13. After three it was a 15-point Green Devils lead. The final frame would see Alexander close the game to a handful or so a few times only to fall 50-42.

The biggest difference in the game was Katelyn Boerger; the 6-1 senior was unstoppable at times inside, and her defense was as hard as a rock all game long. She ended her night with 16 points. Emma Pistole chipped in with 10 points. Tatum Grooms, who was as physical as any player I got to see play during the eight games the Classic had, ended with 7 points. I would bet she left a few bruises on the girls from Alexander High School.

For Alexander, who seems to get more energized as the game went on, they were led by Kaylee Hundel. The 5-5 Junior was all energy all game long. Lily Ryder goes 5-9, and Ryder, she had a ton of energy all game long. She would total 10 points. Jayden Bean had 7 points, with 5 of those coming on free throws.

Semi Pro: Columbus Fire 8 Port City Spartans 0 (Game called in the third because of fighting)

  Yesterday I drove to Portsmouth and met up with my friend Bill Norman after dinner at The Portsmouth Brewing Company before driving over to Spartan Stadium to watch the semi-pro football game and watch the Port City Spartans host the Columbus Fire. I have been to over 1,500 football games, or close to that amount, and I can say none of them prepared me for what I ended up seeing. The stadium had one set of lights that did not work at all that I had seen before (Jackson State University). One pole had a light missing, and another pole had one single light that did not work at all on the visitor's side, making the field dark. I saw a fan on the Spartans side of the field standing with the players vaping, and I saw a player setting on the bench for most of the game also vaping. The game itself was stopped once when the refs walked off the field for what one player on the Spartans said was because a Columbus player said something about going after the ref with a gun.
