Whiteoak escapes Wellston 51-48

This game was part of the Dave Yong Classic played at North Admas High School.

Whiteoak came in according to MaxPreps, supporting a 4-8 record, while Wilson came in 2-9 on the season. Whiteoak opened things up with an 18-8 lead after one and looked like they were going to run away from the Golden Rockets. The second quarter was a complete reverse of the first, with Wellston taming the Wildcats by locking things up at 26 at the half.

The large crowd was entertained in the third quarter as both teams played physically and very hard, with the Golden Rockets taking the 39-36 lead heading into the final frame. A 15-9 run by the Wildcats gave them the 51-48 win.

Sophomore Wes Briggs led all scorers with 19 points in the defeat. He hit 2 threes in the game, with a total of 8 field goals. Devin Barnhill came off of the bench to score 10 points, with 3 big three-pointers. The kid has a nice touch from the corner.

Leading the Wildcats with 18 apiece were Sawyer Blair and Brady Bandenburg. Both are juniors, and I would bet both are going to be a pain for all of the teams in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, along with any team that Whiteoak faces. Whiteoak only hit 4 three-pointers as they pounded the ball inside the arc searching for the open, easy look.
