Bloom Carroll needs overtime to take care of Fairfield Union 42-35

Bloom Carroll (5-8) sought their sixth win on Friday night hosting Fairfield Union, who stood (9-5). This was one of those games where both teams went through long stretches of being ice-cold from the field.

Bloom Carroll went down six quickly but recovered to lead 12-10 after the opening quarter.

It was good on-ball defense that provided the spark, with just enough offense to right the ship. Fairfield Union would lead 18-16 at the half as the ice-cold shooting continued for both teams, along with some nice defense.

The second half followed suit with the first ice-cold shooting with pressure defense that helped create more than a handful of turnovers. Bloom Carroll led 27-26 after three. The fourth frame would provide just seven points, leaving the game tied at 30.

Overtime was a case of Bloom Carroll hitting key free throws as Fairfield Union was forced to foul. The final would be 42-35 Bloom Carroll. The biggest difference in this one was Michael Stevenson coming off of the bench to score 9 points. Total bench scoring for the game was 11 for Bloom Carroll to just 2 for Fairfield Union.

Leading Bloom Carroll with 11 points was Tryce Chaffin, including 1 three-pointer. Also scoring 9 points was Caleb Hinkle. He added one three-pointer to his total.

For Fairfield Union, sophomore Trevor Utzinger had a game-high 12 points. Keegan Arnett had 8 hard-earned points inside as he had to bang all night long with the defense surrounding him.
