Wednesday Night Football in Dayton, Ohio, had Thurgood Marshall battling Belmont in a Dayton City League game. Belmont came in 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the city. Overall, Marshall had a record of 1-6 and a city record of 1-2. Both teams were in a must-win situation if they were to have hopes of battling for a league title.
Isaiah Wilson got things going for the Cougars with 6:27 left in the fast-paced opening quarter with a run of 20 yards. The 11-play, 84-yard drive ended with Teagen Jones' 3-yard score to make this a 6-0 game, with 4:42 left in the quarter. On the two-point conversion run, Jayson Wilson-Martin coughed the ball up.
With 0:15 left in the quarter, Bison quarterback Aaron Dandrea had his pass picked off by Janylin Hines after the ball was tipped. The ensuing drive by the Cougars would not be any points with it. With 7:00 left in the half, Dandrea was picked off by Jayson Wilson-Martin. Jones capped off a 7-play, 38-yard drive with a 1-yard score to make this a 12-0 game, with 3:43 left in the half.
Dandrea used his feet to make the score a 12-6 game with a run of 53 yards. He made a nice move and broke a tackle before scoring with 2:42 left in the half.
With a little under a minute left in the half, we had a 12-12 game thanks to a Dandrea to Reggie Gardner 61-yard touchdown pass.
Gardner fielded the Cougars' punt, turned upfield, and did not stop until he hit pay dirt from about 46 yards out to make this a 19-12 game with 5:30 left in the third.
We would have a 19-18 game after Isaiah Wilson went 9 yards for the score, with 1:52 left in the third.
With 6:28 left in the game, the Bison converted a fourth and one play when #0, not on the roster, eked his way to a two-yard gain. Facing fourth and six late in the game, and later on the drive, the Bison would get a Dandrea to J'Alan Robinson's 10-yard touchdown to make this a 25-18 game.
The last score of the game came on a safety when the ball was snapped over the Cougars' quarterback's head and rolled out of the end zone, making this a 27-18 game.
