Game Report/Stow 35 St Francis Prep, NY 6

 

Saturday afternoon took me back to Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio, for a high school football doubleheader. Up first from New York St. Francis Prep Terriers versus Sow-Munroe Falls. Watching the teams warm up, I got the feeling this could be a good game, and that was the case for the first half.

Colten Barker came up big early for Stow when he got to Justin Davis for a loss of two. A fourteen-yard completion from Frank Quartarolo to Aaron Gonzalez with 9:23 showing on the clock brought some life to the Terriers offense and their small, dedicated crowd. Roderick Fordham found Josiah Romero to give the Terriers a first and ten on Stow's eleven. Quartarolo found Rafael Espinal for an eleven-yard score, making this a 6-0 game, with 6:37 left in the opening quarter.

With the clock showing 5:43, Marvin Bowman picked off a Stow pass to put his offense back on the field. The Stow defense stood tall and quickly put their offense back on the field. From there, Israel Purkiss picked up twelve yards. Colten Barker made a catch from Stow, but he coughed the ball up, and pouncing on it like a fat guy on a triple cheeseburger for the Terriers was Daniel Falodun, with a little over 2:00 left in the quarter.

Quartarolo would be sacked by Barker to end the play in the opening quarter. Caden Boyd blocked a Terriers punt to set the offense up at the Terriers' seventeen-yard line just seventeen seconds into the 2nd quarter. Boyd would close out the ensuing drive with a two-yard touchdown run after #81 (NOT ON THE ROSTER) nailed the PAT. Stow had a 7-6 lead, and that lead they never challenged.

Quartarolo hooked up with Salvatore Vakili for a gain of fifteen. Damarien Singh would be dropped for a loss of four by Barker, with 5:04 left in the half. Quartarolo would be sacked hard by Boyd at the 4:19 mark of the quarter. Fordham broke off a big run for the Terriers, but he coughed the ball up right before scoring with the ball rolling out of the end zone, giving Stow a first and ten and the twenty.

Gideon Larlham threw a nice little screen pass to Purkis, who used his field vision and the work of his blockers to pick up seventeen yards with 1:17 left in the half. Larlham would connect with Hayden Mangira for fifteen yards, and then he found Carson Fieishour Bryan for thirteen yards to set up a first and goal at the six. A missed field goal would end the drive, and a few seconds later the teams headed to the locker room.

Larlham used his legs to sixteen yards with 11:07 left in the third. He would cap off the drive with a twenty-three-yard touchdown pass to Fieshour, making this a 14-6 game, with 9:20 left in the quarter. With sixteen seconds left in the quarter, Larlham connected with Jack Miller for a twenty-nine-yard score, making this a 21-6 game.

Purkiss would go forty-six yards for a touchdown on a play where he ran right through a tackle, making this a 28-6 game, with 9:24 remaining in the game. Larlham picked up seventeen yards on another nice run, and then an unsportsmanlike flag was thrown on the terriers. Thomas Shaw made a leaping seventeen-yard touchdown catch to end the scoring, giving us a 35-6 final.

One of the biggest hits of the game came with 2:09 left when Daniel Ramdeen crushed Alexander Hall.
