Game Report/GlenOak 20 Cleveland Heights 6


 

The nightcap at Tom Benson Stadium had Canton GlanOak going up against Cleveland Heights. For me it would be the first time seeing Cleveland Heights play. The game really brought the saying "Winning ugly can be beautiful" to life. Maybe, in this case, winning ugly was just that?

Caydren Saunders would be dropped by Khavarei Marshall for a loss of five after catching a screen pass, with 9:33 left on the score-clock. Xavier Marshasll tackled Jamel Hall, resulting in a loss of four yards with 8:57 remaining in the quarter. GlanOak was forced to punt, but they caught a break when the punt was muffed. Racing downfield to recover the ball was #86, who is not listed on the roster. The Eagles were forced to settle for a thirty-three-yard field goal from Joey Kelly, making this a 3-0 game, with 4:36 left in the quarter.

The quarter ended with the Eagles converting a fourth and six, when Hall found Saunders for the first down. The Tigers' defense would stand tall and hold the Eagles off of the scoreboard. The Tigers offense showed some life at the 8:30 mark of the 2nd quarter when Jaden McDonald broke free for thirty-four yards as he bounced to his left. The drive ended when Brayden Higgens was picked off by Saunders, with 7:23 left in the half. Again the Tigers' defense would keep the Eagles off of the board, keeping this a 3-0 game.

Julian Wise was taken down by Romel Duncan and Drew Delp for a loss of seven with 3:19 left in the half. After getting the ball back, the Eagles would get a Jamel Hall to Saunders pass for thirteen yards to set up a twenty-seven-yard field goal from Kelly to make this a 6-0 game. The half ended with Timarien Patterson picking up a Tigers pass.

The Tigers muffed the 2nd half kickoff, and making them pay for it with the recovery was Pete Tyler. Later in the quarter, Timarien Patterson put the ball on the turf, and making him pay for it was Khalil Al-Amin with 6:32 left in the quarter. Jaden McDonald had little to show stat-wise for his play, but with 6:22 showing on the clock, he blazed his way to the end zone from fifty-three yards out to lock this one up at six. Romel Duncan blocked the P.A.T.

Hall to Saunders netted eleven yards at the 5:21 mark. Hall was sacked by Ryan Moody with 4:50 left in the quarter. The Eagles faced fourth and one, and electing to give the ball to Delp was the correct decision, as he gained a couple of yards moving the chains. Hall hit Anthony Kaplanis Jr. for the thirty-yard touchdown. Keely was true on his P.A.T. kick, making this a 13-6 game.

Higgins would be picked off by Evan Crissey with 11:44 left in the game. Later in the quarter, Higgins connected with McDonal for fifteen yards. The drive ended when Jordan Robinson fumbled the ball and Khalin Walker recovered it, with 9:20 left. Leland Snell Jr. picked up seven yards, giving the Eagles a first and goal from the one. He finished the drive with the one-yard score. Keely ended the scoring with his P.A.T., making this 20-6 game.

The last notable play of the game came on a sack by Steven Thomas on Higgins, with 3:01 left.
