(Game report) Firefox 12 West Union 6 OT

First I want to thank the head coach from West Union Dragons for hand writing his roster out for me, with numbers included. I next want to the whom ever runs the Foxfire X account for making sure I had their updated roster.

The opening game in the 2026 Ohio high school football season took place this afternoon with the game being played at the West Union Recreation Park in West Union Ohio. Both teams were missing players making both rosters very lite. If I counted correctly Foxfire dressed 18 players, while West Union dressed only ten. The game was payed with twelve minute quarters, with a running clock. There were maybe, 65 fans in attendance and at times I got to see my first ever ten man on ten man football because of a player from West Union being shaken up a few times. There was also a 45 minute or so weather delay.

The first quarter brought two significant plays with it. First, Malachi Reilly ran a sweep to pick up 17 yards for the Dragons. For Firefox they would get a sack on Landen Campbell for a loss of 8 yards.

The second quarter would see 6-1, 280 pound run for 8 yards and then he capped off 11 play, 47 yard drive with a one yard touchdown run putting Firefox up 6-0 with 3:41 left in the half. Campbell would be picked of by Firefox Blaze Hook, who made a diving interception to end the half.

The fast moving third quarter had two plays of note in it. First Campbell found Malakye Edwards for a gain of nine giving the Dragons a first and ten on the Firefox fourteen yard line. A nice defensive play by Firefox came when Brayden Peach stopped Kolby Dugan for a short loss.

With 4:28 left in the final frame, Dugan, who had set out for a while after being banged up several times in the game came back in to out run the Firefox defense for a 73 yard score. Edwards was stopped short on the two point conversion try by Michael Ward.

With 0:52 left Ward mishandled the snap fumble the ball and coming up with it for the Dragons was Nate West. With 0:45 seconds left Dugan was thrown back for a loss of eight yards.

The game went to overtime where Kydon Perdue picked off Edwards. Bowen would rumble, stumble, and bully his way in for a walk off fifteen yard touchdown run to make the final score 12-6 Firefox.
