(Game Report) Nelsonville 7 Millersport 1
My seventh softball game of the season took me to Millersport to watch the Lakers square off against a very young Nelsonville York team. Before I get started on the game, I wanted to say what a pleasure it was to get to talk to Rusty Richards before, during, and after the game. The coach is 100% class.
In watching the teams warm up, it appeared the Buckeyes were the team to beat in this one. The game got started with Nelsonville-York taking a 6-0 lead. Some timely hitting and a lot of Laker errors aided in the score. For the game, the Lakers totaled 9 errors. The Buckeyes had just 1. The score won't show it. Combined, but pitching dominated this one. Combined, the two teams had just 6 hits. The Buckeyes had four of those. Lilly Gura went the distance, striking out twelve. Lakers pitcher Kendyl Bonkowski also went the distance, striking out ten. The impressive part of Bonkowski I.M.O. was she never had the look of disappointment on her face when her teammates turned easy chances into errors.
Freshman Paige Hart led the Buckeyes offense with two hits and one RBI. Gura had a hit and an RBI, and she scored three runs. Sophomore Cam Jolly had a hit and scored twice.
For the Lakers, sophomore Claire Haney had a hit, and she scored her team's only run.
