Portsmouth Notre Dame 45 Shadyside 7

Using online rosters from MaxPreps and Hudl.

My Saturday afternoon game took me to Spartan Stadium in Portsmouth, Ohio, to watch the match between Portsmouth Notre Dame (4-0) and the (2-2) Shadyside Tigers. This week five matchup would turn out to be as one-sided as it could be, with Notre Dame scoring the first 45 points. The crowd of approximately 400 fans, to their credit, all stuck around to the end.

Byrce McGraw would get the Notre Dame offense moving with a nice 13-yard run. The 8-play, 50-yard drive ended on a 25-yard scoring run by Jaxon Stombock, followed by the PAT kick from #10. Coleman Shaffer made this a 7-0 game.

Notre Dame would run a misdirection type of screen pass where Luke Cassidy softly tossed a pass to Stombock, who picked up 24 yards. McGraw would pick up 12 yards, taking the ball to the Tigers' 8-yard line. From there Caassidy sprinted into the end zone to make this a 14-0 game.

With the sun shining, you could not see the scoreboard, but before the first quarter ended, Archie West avoided three weak tackle attempts to go 47 yards to make this a 21-0 game.

The Notre Dame defense would get a sack on Tigers quarterback Jaydan Johnson for a loss of seven when Stombock and West planted the quarterback into the hard ground. The Notre Dame lines had a very good game as they dominated the Tigers' lines.

Once the Notre Dame offense got back on the field in the second quarter, Cassidy used his legs to pick up 21 yards. Portsmouth Notre Dame was much faster overall, and once they got to the outside, the yardage piled up at a rapid pace. A field goal from 37 yards by #10 Shaffer made this a 24-0 game.

Before the half came to a close, the Notre Dame defense picked up two sacks. The first came by #10 Shaffer, with the 2nd coming from Stombock. Tigers quarterback Johnson had to run for his life most of the day. We had a 31-0 game after McGraw powered through two tackling attempts to score from 18 yards out.

With the clock running all through the 2nd half, the half flew by. Notre Dame would score twice in the third. Cassidy ran in from 3 yards out, and then Eric Montgomery went right up the gut of the Tigers' defense to score on a 46-yard run to make this a 45-0 game after three.

The Tigers would get a 35-yard run from Brandon O'Grady in the final frame to help set up a 1-yard score from Johnson. #2 Hunter Ramsey ended the scoring with his PAT to give up a final score of 45-7.
