Foxfire 40 Stivers 38 OT

I am using the Fix Fire roster from Hudl.com and Maxpreps.com and the Stivers roster off of the Dayton Public School website.

*I want to thank Koben Bowen and the Foxfire Twitter account for letting me know who scored their first touchdown. I also want to thank Koben Brown for letting me know why the game was played with 8:00 minute quarters.*

My nightcap game put the brand-new football team Dayton Stivers (0-2) against the 2nd-year program Fox Fire (2-0) out of the Zanesville area. The game was played with 8:00 minute quarters, and that was something Stivers wanted to do.

The Phoenix got a 16-yard run from Zayden Imani to get the road team's offense moving. Braydon O'Neill had a nice run to set up the first goal from the one, and that is where hard-running Koben Bowen plowed in for the game's first score. Nazir Smith followed his line into the end zone to complete the two-point conversion run to make this an 8-0 game, with 4:26 left in the quarter. The drive totaled 6 plays and went for 63 yards.

Freshman quarterback Nazir White found Kei'von Clark for 19 yards. White is a multi-skilled quarterback who is going to get better and better with experience. White capped off the 8-play, 50-yard drive with a touchdown pass from 13 yards out from Brennan Harvey with 0:43 seconds left in the quarter to make this an 8-6 game. Clark was hammered by Michael Ward on the two-point conversion try.

Imani would fight his way for a gain of 13 yards before the quarter came to a close. Bowen picked up 18 yards with a nice run 56 seconds into the second quarter. Smith used the hard work of his linemen to pick up 11 yards. Smith capped the 8-play, 71-yard drive off with a 13-yard run followed by another two-point conversion run, this time by Imani, with 4:55 left in the half, making this a 16-6 game.

Stivers is as dangerous passing the ball as Foxfire was running it, and with 1:49 left in the half, White connected with Clark for a 17-yard pickup. White ended the 8-play, 61-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown pass to James Groves, making this a 16-12 game with 0:58 seconds left in the half.

O'Neill was picked off by Groves, with 0:27 seconds left in the half. The last play of the half was a 27-yard touchdown pass from White to Kellen Wood with no time left on the clock. A roughing the passer call against Foxfire allowed one untimed play. and Stivers took advantage of it with the score. On the two-point conversion try, Groves was crushed by Imani.

Stivers needed just two plays to score again in the third quarter, with White finding Brennan Harvey for a 50-yard score. Tylon Matthews was stuffed on the two-point conversion run to keep this a 24-16 game.

A 15-yard run by Imani was backed up by an 11-yard run from Bowen, setting up a first and goal from the two. O'Neill closed out the 6-play, 63-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Smith locked the game up at 24 apiece when he converted the two-point conversion try, with 3:32 left in the quarter.

A 23-yard pass from White to Daishawn Riley got things moving for the Tigers. The drive would stall a short time later. White playing linebacker for the Tigers, White threw O'Neill down for a loss of six with 2:09 showing on the 4th quarter clock. O'Neill shook off the loss by connecting with Imani for 35 yards to set up a first and goal from the 1-yard line. O'Neill ended the 13-play, 72-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run followed by another two-point conversion run from Bowen, making this a 32-24 game, with 0:58 seconds left in the game.

On the ensuing kickoff, Blaze Hook laid the wood to Clark, holding him to a very short return. A bad snap caused White to be tackled by Wesley Clark, causing a loss of 13 yards, with 0:48 seconds left. A 21-yard run by White, who used a Barry Sanders-like spin move to avoid a would-be tackler, with 0:30 seconds left. White hooked up with Daishawn Riley for 34 yards with 0:20 seconds left. White scrambled around and then let go of a pretty pass to a wide-open Kellen Wood for the 17-yard score. White could not find anyone open on the two-point try, so he rambled toward the end zone and powered his way in to lock the game up at 32, with 0:15 seconds left.

The game went to overtime, where White scored on the first play from 20 yards out. The two-point conversion try failed, leaving this a 38-32 game.

Foxfire worked the ball to the 5-yard line, and then on the second play of the drive, Smith tied things up at 38, setting up his game-winning two-point conversion, giving Foxfire the 40-38 win.
