Westland Cougars 49 Centennial Stars 00
ShaMar Chilton (Using a combination of rosters from HUDL and rosters from the press box) Game number 16, 2025, took me back to Westland High School in Galloway, Ohio, for the Thursday Night matchup featuring the Centennial Stars and the home team, the Westland Cougars. The Stars were a little beat up heading into this one and had a major lineup change with a guard moving to center. For the Cougars, their coach said he would know how good they were after week two. The Cougars' offense needed just three plays to light the scoreboard up, with Jayrece Dixon finding Emoni Smith, who turned a short catch into a 74-yard touchdown. After Donavan Moore drilled the PAT, we had a 7-0 game, with 10:25 showing on the first quarter clock. The Stars caught a big early break when Gabe Moore touched the punt, and pouncing on it for the Stars was Keleb Jenkins at the 8:47 mark of the opening quarter. The Cougars' defense quickly shut down the Stars' offense. Once the Cougars got the ball back, Greg Thomas closed out a 4-play, 41-yard drive with a 41-yard touchdown run, putting the Cougars up 14-0 with 5:44 left in the quarter. The Cougars' defense would get a pick from Germere Sanchez on a pass thrown by Issac Putnam, with 4:05 left in the quarter. Greg Thomas picked up 16 yards on a nice run to get the Cougars moving. The drive came to a climax when Dixon hooked up with Tiko Crittenden for the 15-yard touchdown pass, making this a 21-0 game, with 3:22 left on the clock. Putnam would be sacked by Moussa Konate, ShaMar Chilton, and Lance Perkins for a short loss, with a little over a minute left on the clock. Westland would go up 28-0 with 9:20 left in the half when Thomas broke free for a 12-yard score. On the ensuing kickoff, the Cougars kicked short, and the Stars seemed to be caught off guard, as not one of the kick return unit went for the ball, which made an easy recovery for #80 (not on any roster I could find). Fifteen seconds later we had a 35-0 game when Dixon hit Sanchez for a 34-yard pass. Putnam suffered losses of 5 yards and 6 yards. The 5-yard loss came on a sack by Kamren Jordan, and the 6-yard loss came on a bad snap, allowing Lance Perskins to tap the QB while he recorded the ball. There were two other big plays in the quarter. The first came on a Cougars pick by Sanchez, and the second came on a Putnam sack by Perkins. With the 2nd half being run with the running clock, there were just three plays that stuck out; two were Cougars touchdowns. The first came on a 10-yard touchdown pass to #12 Tyler Hammon. The 2nd one came when Thomas Douglas caught a pass that bounced off of a teammate, making this a 49-0 game. The other play was a block punt by Perkins.
