Prince Avenue Christian 40, Callaway 17 (Georgia)

 


The 2025 Dave Hunter + Corky Kell Classic got started at Kell High School, with Prince Avenue Christian squaring off with the Callaway Cavaliers. Prince Avenue would go 10-4 last season, including their third state championship. They also have a new head coach in Jon Richt. The Cavs would have a nice season in 2024 as well by going 9-3. The Wolverines would be seeking their 185th win in school history, while the Cavs were seeking win number 234.

Mother Nature was in a good mood to start this one, with weather almost perfect for football. As the night wore on, there would be two delays as heavy downpours, with thunder and lighting, showed up. In the first half, Calloway had a slim three point lead, at 17-14. DJ Mahone started the scoring off with a fine 26-yard run, after Jayden Bailey nailed his point after kick, Calloway led. 7-0 with 11:44 left in the opening half. Prince Avenge would get a 50-yard run from Andrew Beard, followed by the point after kick from Joey Black to lock things up at seven, with 10:12 left on the first half clock.

Bailey added a 41-yard field goal to put the Cavs up, 10-7 with 4:32 left in the half. Junior three-star Virginia Tech-commit quarterback Ben Musser connect with Hudson Hill for the 87 yard score to put the Cavs up, 14-10, with 4:04 left in the half. The final score in the half came on a Christon Kennedy 6-yard run to give Calloway a 17-14 lead.

The two teams came out twice to get things going in the 2nd half as Mother Nature decided to act up. Prince Avenue seemed to shake off the long delay and score the game's final 26 points. Musher would rush for a 58 yard score, with 4:57 left in the third, to give Price Avenue the 20-17 lead. Beard would score on a 54-yard run and then haul in a scoring pass from Musher for a 24 yard touchdown to make this a 33-7 game, with 6;48 left in the contest. The Final score came on a Gavin Hollum 6 yard pass to Brice Williamson.

Beard would total 150 yards on 13 carries to go with the two scores.

Musser rushed for 112 yards with one score, and he threw for 227 yards and two scores.

Beard had 6 catches, 71 yards and a score.

Hill had 2 catches, 97 yards, and a score. 

Zechariah Duke punted three times for an average of 40 yards per kick.

Knox Blocker recorded 9 total tackles, with 7 of them being solo tackles.

For Calloway

Blake Harrington, rushed for 109 yards 

 Kennedy ran for a score with 60 total yards and a score.

Mahone had 38 yards and a score.

Kaiden James grabbed 5 catches, good for 78 yards
