North Polk escapes Lewis Central 27-24 (Iowa)

Using the roster from gobound.com

North Polk goes to Lewis Central and comes out with a three-point win.

In the opening quarter Bryce Burk picked up 11 yards on a nice run. Lewis Central almost ended the North Polk drive when Cooper Donahoo just missed getting a pick, but he did force a punt.

Braydan Doss would give Lewis Central a first down when he ran through a big hole created by his linemen. A 10-yard completion to Leonardo Tatum on a nicely thrown ball by Camden Dahlheim kept things going in the right direction for the offense. Doss picked his way to a gain of eleven to move the chains again. Dahlheim would be picked off by Benjamin Glasgow, ending what was once a promising drive.

Lewis Central would recover thanks to their defense, who easily dispatched the North Polk offense. Once the offense got back on the field, Braydan Doss sprinted 37 yards to help set up the game's first score. Dahlheim snuck in from a yard out after Jimmy Scott made good on the PAT; we had a 7-0 game.

In the 2nd quarter, Doss had runs of 26 and 14 yards to set up a 39-yard field goal by Scott, making this a 10-0 game. North Polk faced a fourth on the Lewis Central 40-yard line and elected to go for it. James Armstrong found Carter Harris for 23 yards. The PA guy gave Harris credit for the catch, but on the roster, #3 is Mason Ackerman. Armstrong later found Bryce Burkefor for 14 yards to set up first and goal at the 1-yard line. Blaine Speas was dropped for a loss of two by Paxton Blanchard. Armstrong ended the drive with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Brady Cathcart. Liam Triplett hit the PAT, making this a 10-7 game.

This became a 13-10 game when Armstrong sprinted in for the 10-yard touchdown.

In the third quarter, Carson Reinhart rambled for a 24-yard run thanks in large part to a hold that was not called. Armstrong hit Braylon Westra for 10 yards to set up a first and goal from the 1-yard line. Reinhart punched it in to make this a 20-10 game.

A 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by #22 Braydan Doss made this a 20-17 game. Still in the third, Armstrong hit Charlie Spurgeon, who was wide open on a post, for a 61-yard touchdown to make this a 27-17 game.

The North Polk ended the third with a statement. A sack by Chandler Johnson, then a tackle for a loss of five by Taylan Cakinberk, was followed by a 7-yard sack by Reinhart.

Blaine Speas coughed the ball up in the final frame, and making the recovery for Lewis Central was Braxton Buthe. #22 Doss ended the drive with a 20-yard gut run to make this a 27-24 game.

After Lewis Central used two big defensive plays to keep North Polk out of the end zone and allowed their offense to get the ball late in the quarter at their own 5-yard line late in the game.

Lewis Central was in the easy field goal range, but two negative plays forced Scott to attempt a 52-yard field goal. He had the distance with ease, but the ball was wide left, allowing North Polk to escape with the 27-24 win.
