LaGrange 27 Cass 7 (Georgia)

My first visit to Barron Stadium in Rome, Georgia, brought a matchup between Cass and LaGrange. Cass wrapped up their 2024 season with a 6-4 record. while LaGrange finished with a 10-4 record. Overall Cass entered with a school record of 245-475-5. LaGrange entered with an overall record of 81-394-40.

The Grangers would get things started with a 55-yard run by Dylan Barber, who broke right, used some nice work by his offensive line, and used some natural God-given ability to make the run look easy. Just 18 seconds later Barber muffed the snap from center, and jumping on the ball for Cass was Eli Simmons, according to the PA announcer. From my seat it looked as if Malakai Keita got the ball.

Cass would get a 37-yard run by Jerome Sanders at the 11:22 mark of the frame, with 15 yards tacked on due to a late hit. Cass would turn the ball over when the punter mishandled the ball and Mason Blandingburg pounced on it, with 4:13 left.

Mason Calhoun threw a 38-yard pass to Jardon Stringer to get things moving for Cass at the 4:01 mark of the quarter. The drive ended on a 1-yard plunge by Peyton Davis. Sammy Rodas made the score 7-0 with his P.A.T. with 3:51 showing on the clock.

Cass would get a 16-yard completion to Jah Anderson on a pretty throw by Noah Rogers. Rogers made the last big play of the quarter when he scampered 21 yards down to the Grangers' 12-yard line.

The second quarter flew by as both teams took turns off of the scoreboard. With 4:01 left, Barber would be sacked for a loss of 9 yards by Eli Simmons. With 1:47 left, Brodie McWhorter coughed the ball up in the end zone, and Jamarcus made the recovery for the Grangers. It was Jamarcus Benton making this a 14-0 game, with 1:47 left in the half.

Quickly getting the ball back, the Grangers went right back to work. Barber used his feet to pick up 27 yards. Then with just 0:18 seconds left in the half, Barber found Kalvin Snowberger for the 24-yard touchdown, making this a 20-0 game.

The third quarter would see Benton sacking McWhorter for a loss of 6 yards to force a fourth and ten for Cass. There were two other plays of interest in the quarter. First, Zach Stiles got to De'Anthony Stewart for a loss of four, then Stiles got some revenge when he blasted his way to a gain of 15.

Mason Calhoun would throw a strike to Stringer on fourth and six for a gain of 11 yards to give the Grangers a big first down, with 10:51 left in the game. This became a 27-0 game when Barber connected with Julian Jones for the 15-yard score, with 9:05 left in the contest.

The Colonels would get a 20-yard completion from McWhorter to Chase Tatum to set up their only score. The score came on a McWhorter to Anderson pass, followed by the P.A.T. by Anthony Quijada, making this a 27-7 game.
