Cincinnati Eagles 13 Atlas,TX 12 0T
Using the rosters from the program
Atlas had several players sharing the same number, so the name might be incorrect, as I had a 50-50 chance, so I used both names when needed.
The night game of the 2025 Home School Classic was the best of the bunch. The matchup pitted the Cincinnati Eagles against the Atlas Rattlers out of Texas. During the game the fans of both schools were very vocal, making for a very entertaining night.
At the 4:31 mark of the quarter, #1 Joziah Riley/Christopher Stewart was thrown down for a loss of 6 yards by the Eagles' #60. Gerret Hatfield (Thanks, Coach Goodpaster.)
The first quarter flew by as both teams kept the clock moving. With just 0:38 left on the clock facing a 4th and one, Atlas used a 7-yard run from #1 to give the Rattlers a first and goal on the Eagles' 1-yard line. Riley/Stewart would make this a 6-0 game seventeen seconds later. A two-point conversion would fall to the turf, keeping the score 6-0.
The Eagles would fly high with 10:44 remaining in the half when freshman Jacoby Mooneyhan found Lincoln Womak #83 for a 57-yard gain. The Eagles later on the drive faced a fourth and seven on the Rattlers' 11-yard line, and they decided to go for it. A delay of game call backed the ball up 5 yards, and Mooneyhan threw a pick to Andrew Norman to end the threat.
Atlas would go to the air, picking up 31 yards on a catch by #4. Alex Davis/Jaden Lewis. Jaden Phillips/David Rata hit Brody McRay/Noah Streight for 14 yards with 7:13 left in the half. Ace Meckley and Isaac Hatfield crushed Riley/Stewart for a loss of four at the 6:49 mark of the quarter. Defense continued to own the night with Timmy Thames picking off Mooneyhan with a little over 3:00 left in the half. Riley/Stewart picked up 15 yards of sand and then had 5 yards tacked on after an Eagles penalty. Gerret Hatfield had another big play when he plastered the Atlas ball carrier for a 4-yard loss.
The third quarter was at the 9:27 mark when Thames threw Womack down for a loss of four. Womack #83 got some revenge when he brought in a pass from Mooneyhan for 24 yards on fourth and six, with 6:52 left in the quarter. Mooneyhan then found #85 Caleb Davis for 7 yards to help set up a 3-yard scoring run from Jordan Jacobson. Jacobson might not have world-class speed, but what he does have is the ability to get stronger as the game gets older. The point after an attempt by Noah Rogers out of the hold of Truett Furniss never stood a chance as Andrew Norman swatted it down like King Kong would a plane flying near his head to keep this a 6-6 game, with 3:09 left in the third. Caleb Davis would drop the Rattlers running back down for a loss of two to set up the fourth quarter.
The Eagles forced a turnover on downs after Atlas had faced a fourth and one on the Eagles' two. A false start was followed by an incomplete pass that fell short of the receiver. That was how.
Mooneyhan would find #16 Peyton Salyer for 20 yards on third down, keeping the drive alive, with 2:44 left in the contest. The Rattlers shut the Eagles' offense down, and after getting the ball back, Rogers picked off a pass to give the ball back to the Eagles. Rogers would save his best for later. Mooneyhan and Sayler connected for a 28-yard gain with 0:43 left, but the Eagles could not finish the drive, and the game would move to overtime.
The Rattlers struck first, in overtime needing just one play to score. Davis/Lewis plowed up the gut for the 10-yard scoring run. A two-point attempt failed, setting up the ending all of the Eagle fans were screaming for.
Jacobson took the handoff from Mooneyhan, and using the work of his offensive line, he glided into the end zone to lock things up at 12. Rogers walked onto the field with what looked like the confidence Adam Vinatieri had every time he was called on to make a kick. Rogers counted his steps back, Furniss called for the snap, and Rogers drilled the game-winning kick, making this a 13-12 final. As I said earlier, Rogers saved his best.
