What is the best part of being a member of the Bedford North Lawrence football team?
The best part about playing for BNL is my teammates. There is nothing better than being able to play sports with my friends who are like family.
What has been your biggest moment as a football player?
My biggest moment was leading the conference in sacks as a sophomore. It gave me the confidence to know that I can really make a difference on the field. It also proved to me that all the work I was putting in on and off the field was making a difference.
As an athlete, in any sport, at any age, what has been your most embarrassing moment?
My most embarrassing moment was when I was 5. I was playing basketball, and I scored my first ever points on the wrong goal. My family and I still laugh about it.
Who is the best player that you have faced in a game, along with the team he was on?
I would say Jaylan Johnson from Seymour High School. He was an All-State TE and a tough cover for us.
What is the best part of being a defensive end?
The best part is getting the chance to get to the QB! I love the feeling of getting a sack on a big 3rd down. I also take a lot of pride in being able to stop the run.
What is the toughest part of being a tight end?
I’ve been working on route running. Since I’m mainly focused on defense, I need more work in that area.
What makes you a good teammate?
I try to lead by example. I work really hard so all my teammates know I’m going to do everything I can to help us win.
Why should a college coach recruit you?
I think a coach should recruit me because I’m never going to stop pushing myself in the weight room, on the field, or in film to be the best. I want to be great and won’t stop until I can no longer play football. I also just love the game and can’t live without it.
Would you share with the readers some of the camps you have attended, as well as the biggest lesson you have learned from those camps?
Camps I’ve been to this year are Indiana Wesleyan, Georgetown College, Hanover, IU, Purdue, and UIndy, and I have one more at Eastern Illinois.
I have learned a lot about different techniques, different ways to train, ways to get off the ball faster, and getting upfield. Every coach has different styles and ways of teaching, so I really just tried to be a sponge and take everything in and maximize each opportunity to learn a different coach’s perspective.
If you are invited to play in the North vs. South game after the season, will you?
Absolutely! I think any time you can get on the field, it’s a chance to get better. Also, being a selection would be a huge honor.
Would you share with the readers some of the schools you are hearing from along with some of the offers you have?
As of now I have offers from Indiana Wesleyan, Wabash, Georgetown College, Defiance, Hanover, Franklin, Denison, Anderson, and Saint Mary of the Woods. I’ve also had conversations with Saint Francis, Indiana State, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Taylor, DePauw, Mount St. Joseph’s, Kentucky Wesleyan, Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Oakland City, and Otterbein.
Should every team make the playoffs?
At the high school level, I think so. Anything can happen in a high school game.
What is a sport you wish you could play but lack the skill set to?
Baseball. I have a couple of buddies who are really good, and I love watching them play and am always so impressed at their skill set to play that sport.
What is your favorite style of music?
Lately I’ve really been into 90’s and 00’s rock. Anything that I can lift to.
What was the last book that you read, along with the author?
I’m not really big on reading, if I’m being honest. I really like watching documentaries and researching online about the human body. I plan on majoring in exercise science, so that is something I’m interested in.
