(Softball) Lakewood Lancers blast Reynoldsburg 16-5

(First, thank you, Raiders, for having your stats and roster up on MAXPREPS.COM.)

2ND Lakewood has no roster or stats up for the game on MaxPreps.)

I traveled to Reynoldsburg for my third softball game of the 2025 season, where the Raiders (0-2) came in with blowout losses to Hamilton Township (20-3) and to Hillard Davidson (18-1). For the Lakewood Lancers (2-0) with wins over Newark (7-5) and Bexley (17-1).

In the top half of the first #13, Lakewood hit a hard shot for a single to drive in a run, making this a 1-0 game. #13 would go 4-4 at the plate and drive in two when all was said and done. #16 for the Lancers would blast a bomb to make this a 2-0 game still in the first. #16 would blast two homers in this one. Her second shot was a three-run bomb. #23 made it 3-0 with a single.

The Lancers would lead 5-0 after two innings with #13 and #16 driving in runs on hard-hit balls. #13 also would earn the win in this one by going the distance. I spoke with #13's father during the game, and we both thought she looked more relaxed on the mound compared to when I covered the Lancers game against Newark. She also looked more locked in at the plate.

The Lancers would go up 7-0 on an error by the Raiders that allowed two runners to score. The Lancers were hitting the ball hard in the inning and the game as they totaled 16 hits. The Raiders would commit, according to their stats, 7 errors in this one.

The Lancers added four runs in the fifth to go up 11-0. #16 had her three-run bomb, and #11 hit a hard ball to drive in a run. If #11 slows things down at the plate and gets her timing down, she is going to be a nightmare for any pitcher she goes against.

The Raiders, with some timely hitting, along with two Lakewood errors, scored five runs in the bottom half of the fifth. There was also a little luck as #13 looked to have struck out one batter out twice, but she did not get either call. The first run scored on an error, the second one on a bases-loaded walk to Monica Wesley, and then three runs scored when Hannah Harter drove a ball to right field that rolled to the fence. Corrie Rhynehardt was given credit for an RBI in the inning.

The Lancers responded with five in the sixth to put this one away. #14 had a two-run double, making this a 13-5 game. #4 plated one with a single, and to round out the scoring, #2 doubled a pair in.

The Lancers totaled 16 hits compared to two for the Raiders. The Lancers had 2 errors while the Raiders had seven. #13 for the Lancers walked 3, struck out 7, and hit 2 batters. For the Raiders, Mariah Cabrera threw 2.3 of the inning as the starter, giving up 3 hits and 3 runs with a base on balls. Monica Wesley went 4⅓ innings, giving up 13 hits. 13 runs, but only 6 were earned. She had 2 strikeouts and 2 bases on balls.
