River Valley needs overtime to take down Unioto 66-65

 


Unioto tipped of tonight in Athens at Ohio University against River Valley out of Caledonia. The first quarter was face paced with a lot of good action with Unioto taking a 23-15 lead. In the second quarter it appeared that Unioto was going to turn this into a blowout but River Valley went on a 12-0 run to lock things up at 30. From there the teams went into sloppy mode as it appeared both teams, especially Unioto looked lost. Unioto would recover to take a 33-32 lead into the half. Blake Hoops would have 11 at the half to lead Unioto with Sawyer Weston leading all scorers for River Valley with 12 points. Unioto ran eight players onto the court in the half, as did River Valley. with a total of ten players scoring at least one point. Breaking that down to 6 players for River Valley and four for Unioto.

Unioto would have a very solid third quarter taking a 50-42 lead into the final frame. In the quarter Shermans played another pretty clean quarter looking relaxed and in control. River Valley, who played a much tougher schedule never seemed to panic even when they were down. They would slowly take control quarter forcing overtime as things were locked up at 56.

In the Overtime River Valley took the lead and never let in go even with the Shermans making thing tough in the end. The Vikings would take the game 66-65. In the second half including the overtime period Unioto had five players score with Blake Fitch leading the way with nine, He finished the game with 14 points. Hoops would end the game with 17 points and 11 boards. K.B.Perkins added 14 total with seven coming in each half, including the overtime period. Caden Cutright added 13 points, including three, three's all coming in the first half.

For River Valley they would have five players scoring in the 2nd part of the game. Carter Myers led the way scoring 21 total, with 13 coming in the 2nd part of the game. He nailed four three pointers overall. Sawyer Weston added 19 points. The other player to hit double figures for the winner was  Chase Smith including a big three pointer later.
