(Girls)Norwayne Bobcats takes down nine time state Champion Africentric Nubians 49-40

When you hear the name Africentric in Ohio and it comes to girls basketball, there are many adjectives you might hear. Champion, toughness, intimidation, and many others. For the Norwayne Bobcats they simply refused to let any of those adjectives play a part in their semi-final game against the Nubians. Using a 15-2 run in the first half, along with 16 points from super-stud 5-11 Junior Ava Maibach the Bobcats led 14-8 after one period and then 26-13 at the half. A big bright spot for the Nubians in the half was Jeniya Bowers who scored 7 of her teams 13 points.

The second half the Nubians used a ferocious defense coupled with a lot of speed to outscore the Bobcats 12-8 to cut the lead to 34-28. The Bobcats at times struggled at times with the double teams and the quick hands of the Nubians defense but they never seem to forget who they were and what they do and that was enough to carry them to a 49-40 win.

I had Maibach with 27 total points and  7 boards. She had three free throws in the second half and 4 two point baskets. Hannah Froelich had 13 boards to go with 9 points for the Bobcats. Allie Demassimo had 6 boards and 7 points.

For the two-time defending state champions Africentric  Bowers ended with 19 points and 8 boards. Shaunie Little had 10 points. Jae’Veyonna Brown was held to 6 points to go with 11 boards.
