Rootstown in their first ever girls semi final game was able to make the trip great as they escape a small, young, and very physical Fort Frye team. Fort Frye started one senior and four Sophomores and they all played every minute of the game. The Cadets only dressed eight players in the game.
Rootstown led 19-17 after one quarter with Nadia Lough showing early that she could be a force. Lough had 12 in the first half and finished with 20 after all was said and done. At halftime the Rovers led 34-28 and it looked like the Cadets were going to get ran out of the gym. Their stud player Emmie Dusky was be hounded like a dog on the scent of the kill as she had to work for every shot she took. She still was able to end her night with 13 points.
The second half the Cadets came out and looked like the fresher team as they quickly locked this game up. The quarter ended with Rootstown catching their breath to lead 47-45. Fort Frye with just five players playing and basically only three were any threat on offense, in this game. Ella Dowler was a beast as she would finish with a game high 23 points including seven three-pointers. The final frame slowly was controlled by the Rovers for the most part but Fort Frye would keep it close dropping a 57-54 decision.
Haven Shilling would finish with 13 points for the Cadets. Colbie Curall had 16 points for the winners.
Rootstown will face Columbus Grove for the state title in Dayton.
