Indian Valley wins state 37-36 over Sandusky Perkins
Canton, Ohio— The last game of the Ohio 2024 football season might have been the best one. With 7,350 fans in the stadium, Indian Valley battled Sandusky Perkins in a game that featured two Bonifield High School football studs. For the Braves of Indian Valley, Grady Kinsey, and for the Pirates of Sandusky Perkins, it was Braylon Collier. Both of these players provided most of the fireworks for their teams. According to Max Preps, Kinsey had 3,031 yards entering the game. Collier coming into the game had 1,216 receiving yards, placing him 11th in the state in that category.
For the game, Kinsey ran the ball 36 times for 247 yards and 5 touchdowns. The kid seemed to get stronger with each carry, often punishing would-be tacklers on his way to extra yards. He averages 6.9 yards a carry. He was not alone in putting up big numbers. Quarterback Ryker Williams ran for 113 yards on 15 totes. Both players completed the only passes they threw, with each going 1-1. Williams catch went for 50 yards.
Collier was a nightmare each time the ball was thrown his way. He would total 207 yards, 8 catches, and 3 touchdowns. His biggest help was Blake Parker, with 4 catches, 80 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Quarterback Sam Schweinfurth threw for 370 yards and a Division IV championship game record-tying five scores. Overall he completed 18-24 passes. Long, short, or medium range, he threw them all well.
Indian Valley would win the game 37-36, with the teams combining for 850 yards, with both going about it their own way. Valley totaled 355 of their yards from rushing, while Perkins totaled 370 of their yards through the air.
For Perkins of the defensive side of the ball, Mikey Yound totaled 20 tackles. The kid is one of the best defensive players in the state. Braxden Matin would total 14 tackles, and rounding out the trio that totaled double digits in tackles was Dylan Crabtree with 10.
Williams led Valley with 8 tackles. Rowan Piccin checked in with 6.
