Northland Vikings use a 34 yard field goal to beat Centennial Stars 3-0.

*Using the Centennial roster from Hudl*

I first want to say it was good to meet Coach Fort before the game and speak to him for a minute or so. As always, it was good to meet up with Coach Sayers before and after the game. I have to thank Coach Sayers for sending me the updated Nortland roster as we spoke and for grabbing a player to make sure I had the correct name for the late fumble recovery.

Midway through the opening quarter, Hatem Mohamed was able to get to the Stars Gavin White, holding the skilled runner short of the first down marker and forcing a punt.

Justin Thomas looked to have made a nice play on Akeilles Harrison got the freshman quarterback for a short loss with 5:53 left on the clock, but a face-masking call was made on the play, giving the Vikings a first down. Harrison would connect with TeJuan Barbour for a gain of 45 yards with 4:39 left. Justin Thomas helped end the drive when he got to Harrison for a loss of 11.

The Stars ended the quarter with two nice runs. The first was by White that was good for 15 yards, with the second coming from Kaleb Jenkins for 12-yards.

The Stars started the second quarter with a bang; two completions from White to Anttonyo Alford and Jenkins picked up 37 yards. Northland counter that with a sack on White by Zayvion White, followed by a fumble recovery by Raheem Hill giving the ball back to the Vikings with 3:45 left in the half.

The half ended with an interception by TeJuan Barbour, giving the Vikings momentum as the teams entered their locker rooms.

Harrison would find Barbour for a 15-yard catch to set up a 34-yard field goal from #10. Jojo Djabo gave the Vikings a 3-0 lead with 8:16 left in the third. The kick would have been good from a little over 40 yards.

Defense would rule the rest of the quarter, starting with Thomas and #50. Gabriël Saha getting to Harrison for a loss of six.Harrison would use his feet to gain 18 yards with 4:21 left in the quarter. The Vikings, Mahari Bowles, made a nice play on White, holding him to just a yard. A Nortland fumble by Navonn Lindsey on a punt return was recovered by Dewayne Davis, giving the Stars the ball with 1:48 showing on the clock.

The fourth quarter would see the two teams have a nice run each for the Stars. Jenkins picked up 10-yards on a nice gut run, where his linemen dominated. The Vikings would get a 15-yard run by Jayden Cherry. Cherry is a junior, who I believe could have a great senior season if he does the little things required to do so.

The final 1:17 seconds might have been the most exciting part of the game for the fans and a heart attack for the coaching staff.A bad snap on a punt would roll back to the four-yard line where the Stars would get it. The Stars came out of the huddle knowing they only needed four yards to post the win, but a fumble occurred, and after checking with Coach Sayers, the player that recovered was Te'Veon Brown. I thought the PA announcer called out Daymon Busby as the player who made the recovery. The Vikings were able to run the clock out, preserving the 3-0 win.
