Copley uses the airways to fly past Barberton 48-27

Yesterday I made my way to Barberton High School to watch the Magic Host Copley Indians. First time visiting Barberton and seeing Copley play.

The first play from scrimmage for the Indians resulted in a fumble with the Magic's Kardiay Tyler is coming up with it. The magic needed just 4 plays to cover the 31 yards needed for the game's first score. The score came on an 11-yard run from Sean White Jr. Blake Leary was true on his conversion kick, making this a 7-0 game, with 9:55 showing on the clock.

When the Magic got the ball back, White would go to his left, picking up 26 yards. Angelo Gotto picked up 12 yards, taking the ball to the Indians 15-yard line with 5:17 left in the opening quarter. The 9-play, 69-yard drive ended with a White 10-yard touchdown run to make this a 13-0 game, with 3:16 left on the clock.

The Magic would respond with 1:38 left in the quarter when Gabe Mansel found Scooby Stanford for the 43-yard touchdown, making this a 13-6 game. Stanford had made a leaping catch earlier in the game, making everyone aware of how dangerous he was. About the only thing Stanford seemed a little thin on was downfield blocking.

The Indians were on the move with 5:25 left in the half, with #15 Jacob Kuczkowski picking up 16 yards on a nice catch. Stanford would catch a nicely thrown ball from Mansel, with the result being a 70-yard touchdown. Anderson Madden locked the game up at 13 with his P.A.T.

On the ensuing kickoff, Sean Wright Jr. fielded the KCIQ near his own forty and returned it to the Indians 14 yards away. It would take four plays for the Magic to make this a 20-13 game, with Wright prancing in from 6 yards out on fourth and two.

The Indians responded in four plays with a 65-yard drive, with Stanford scoring on a 33-yard catch, making this a 20-20 game with 3:03 left in the half. Stanford and Wright were putting on a show with three touchdowns apiece. For Wright, his line was doing the dirty work, and for Stanford, he had his spot on quarterback to thank for his success, along with his God-given talent.

With 10:43 showing on the third quarter clock, Collin Weatherspoon picked off an Ayden Tritt pass to put the Indians offense back on the field. Julian Bearshak would help set up the next Indians score, which came on a 66-yard catch by Andrew McKnight to make this a 27-20 Copley lead.

The DL BURNWORTH hit of the game came from #33 Rhalachi Childs, who crushed Ethan Key after a catch for a loss of five with 8:21 left in the third. The Inidians were able to fix whatever was going wrong as they all but shut down the Magic's running to their left and getting outside, making the second half rough.

Kuczkowsk, who was running nice routes all night, was open again with 6:56 left in the third, and another fine throw by Mansel was right on target, with the result being a 36-yard touchdown to make this a 34-20 game.

With 3:16 left in the quarter, Hendrix Sickles picked off a pass, putting the Indians offense back on the field. 6 plays, 29 yards later, this was a 41-20 game, with Mansel scoring on a 3-yard run. Tony Cox had a 17-yard catch earlier in the drive to move the chains.

Madden would be taken down by Jalen Owens for a short loss as the Indians defense continued to smoother the Magic offense as the teams headed to the final frame.

There would be two scores in the last quarter, one each by each team. For the Indians, it was a 20-yard run by Wyatt Slattery, and for the Magic, it was also a 20-yard run coming from Jalen Owens to give up the 48-27 final score.
