Cougars punch Braves in the mouth in 43-13 win

*I AM USING THE ROSTERS FROM HUDL.COM

** I want to thank Head Coach Stephen Ayers and Beechcroft player Lashawn Wiliams for proving names of the players not on the roster I am using.

Columbus, Ohio- I was able to catch my first game at Beechcroft High School, which now gives me at least one game at every active member of the Columbus City League.

This one started off as wacky as one could imagine, with Cam Cooley coughing the ball up on the opening kickoff and his teammate #1. Gabriel Anyamene picked it up and took it to the Braves 11-yard line. Quarterback David Tran would find Khalil Samuel for the 18-yard touchdown with 10:06 showing on the clock. Tyrell Russell eased in for the 2-point conversion run to make this an 8-0 game.

Cooley would break off a 22-yard run to get things going for the Cougars on their next drive. The drive would end with Tran breaking off a 14-yard touchdown run followed by a conversion kick from #3. Olaoluwa Obayemi to make this a 15-0 game with 7:42 left in the opening period.

The Braves would use the hard running from Jaydin Souders to make this a 15-6 game. Souders had multiple carries on the 11-play drive that ended with a 1-yard score.

Whetstone would use a 38-yard pick six by Jaydin Souders to make this a 15-13 game as the conversion kick from Jack Phlip was true, with 8:26 left in the half.

The Braves defense got a nice play from Rife at the 5:42 mark of the quarter when he got to Russell for a loss of six. The Braves would force a Cougars punt a short time later, and on the punt, #2 Jaymir Raford would deliver the Dave Burnworth Hit of the Game when he plastered Kayleb Madison holding the returner to zero yard on the return.

On the Cougars next drive, Cooley did his best Archie Griffin impersanation by taking the ball 91 yards for a touchdown, making this a 22-13 game with 3:02 left in the half.

With 9:45 left in the third, the Braves elected to go for it on fourth and two, and the Cougars led by #3. Obayemi was ready for it as they stopped Rife short of the first down marker.

On the ensuing Cougars drive, Cooley scored on a 3-yard run, and Russell converted the two-point run to make this a 30-13 game, with 6:42 left in the third. Cooley really looked like a man playing against boys in this one, as he seemed to do whatever he wanted when he needed to. The last big play of the quarter came on a Tran to Obayemi 20-yard pass.

Whetstone would get a big play by I.M.O.'s best player, Souders, when he stopped Russell on fourth and two with 11:54 left in the game. The Cougars defense would recover a Braves fumble with Obayemi pouncing on the rock. The Cougars would get a 36-yard touchdown pass to Samuel and a 49-yard touchdown pass to Obayemi to make the final score 43-13.

That's a great write up. I might add that Beechcroft has some super fast athletes with great instincts, able to lateral back to a teammate while being tackled, twice, or, after muffing a punt return, still able to pick up the muffed ball on a dead run and advance it without even slowing down.
