Clark Montessori 44 New Miami 6

Cincinnati, Ohio- Sunday afternoon, I made another trip to Cincinnati to watch Clark Montessori battle league against New Miami. This would be my first time seeing New Miami play.

The Cougars defense would show they had come to play right away when Rayshaun Gibson stopped Dalson Hayes before the Vikings workhorse could gain a yard.

When the Cougars got the ball, they went to their big dawg, De'Lorean James, and all he did was speed his way to a gain of thirteen. A busted play led to Kingston Royalty getting to the Vikings Amir Lawson for a loss of six. A sweep to the right would result in a 21-yard touchdown run by Camdyn Russell, then a two-point conversion run from Lawson made this an 8-0 game with 8:53 left in the opening quarter.

A roughing the punter call on the Cougars kept the New Miami drive alive, and a 23-yard run from Hayes kept the momentum on the Vikings side. Sam Mayer would cap the drive off with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hayes to make this an 8-6 game with 2:37 left on the clock.

James would break free for a 26-yard gain, and if not for a good tackle from Bradley York, James might have run all the way to Kentucky. The drive would end on a 19-yard run from Eshawn Johnson, followed by another two-point conversion run by Lawson, making this a 16-6 game with 1:15 left in the quarter.

Five seconds later, the play that ended this game, in my opinion, would take place. The Cougars pulled off a nasty onside kick when Jamier Johnson pounced on the football. A quarterback sweep by Lawson picked up 17 yards, where he showed some nice power running out of a couple of tackles.

Lawson would close out the 28-yard drive on an 8-yard touchdown run, and he again ran in the two-point conversion try to make this a 24-6 game with 11:54 left in the half.

A little over a minute later, the Cougars would strike again, with Lawson finding Gibson for the 38-yard score to make this a 30-6 game. The Cougars defense continued to play like a predator when Eshawn Johnson delivered the DL Burnworth hit of the game when he blasted Hayes for a loss of seven with 8:50 left in the half.

The Vikings defense would get a sack on Lawson, with Jason Wyatt and Colton Pauley teamed up for the 7-yard loss with 8:01 left in the quarter. Both teams had one more big moment in the quarter. For New Miami, it was a leaping catch for 30 yards by Josh Schnetzer, and for the Cougars, it was a 30 yard run by Jamier Johnson, where he broke three tackles.

Eight seconds into the third quarter, De'Lorean James went to his left to pick up 15 yards. The Cougars appeared to have a 20-yard pass catch by Russell, but a flag was threw on the play, negating the gain. Lawson would laugh at the callup when he found Jamier Johnson for a 35-yard score to make this a 36-6 game. The last score in the quarter came on a 35-yard pick six by Camdyn Russell. A two-point conversion pass from Lawson to Jayden Murry made this a 44-6 game.

The final quarter flew by, with the highlight being a 16-yard catch by De'Lorean James on a nicely thrwon ball from Bryhaun Ramsey. Ramsey would have had a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Collins, but a flag took the point off the board.
