What are your goals for the 2024 season?

Win District and come out as a top school in the state with a new HC possibly

What makes being a student-athlete special? 

Having support every Friday from your school, showing their spirit.

What is the toughest part of being a student-athlete?

Winning the mental battles first and getting out of your head 

Who has been the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? 

Deion Winstead, Owensboro High School 

What are you most looking forward to this season?

Being so versatile, I can play anywhere on the line, so I'm looking forward to seeing what difference I can make. I also cannot wait to see what the team in general can achieve.

What goals are you setting for yourself this season?

More tackles and more sacks 

What must you guys do as a team to improve on the 6-6 record from last season?

Communication and chemistry definitely take a big roll in improvement.

Focusing on just the road games you have played, which stadium has had the best overall atmosphere, along with the reasons it was so good?

Owensboro Catholic or Apollo 

Staying with the road game theme, which stadium has been the worst to play at, along with the reasons it was so bad? 

Henderson before they got turf 

Have you heard of any colleges, and if so, could you name some of them?

Not at the moment.

What is your favorite genre of music?

R&B and hip-hop

What is the one sport you cannot watch on TV? 

Hockey

What is your go-to snack?

A couple protein bars or a banana

Carson Neely, Port Allegany  Looking back from day one as a coach up to the present, what have been the low and high points of your coaching career? 2020 was a rough first year. We had maybe 15 kids on the roster in preseason sometime in late June. We ended up with probably 6 starters who had never played football in their lives, which isn’t exactly a recipe for success! I was also ejected from our game against Cowanesque Valley. We lost to DuBois 49-0 to end the difficult season... The future did not look so bright. - But fast forward to 2022, where we won our first playoff game 62-6. Followed that up with a win against the reigning western finals champion, Redbank Valley, in a 7-3 fist fight to advance to the D9 championship. In 2023, we won an overtime thriller against DuBois Area 14–13, avenging a 1-point loss at the 1-yard line the year prior.

Small school football

  As the 2024 football season approaches, I want to say thank you to all of the players, coaches, cheerleaders, band members, officials, and all of the school staff for the good times you are about to give thousands of fans this year. As a fan and a person who covers games, I often get asked why I go to as many smaller school games as I do, and I always tell those asking that there is something special about driving into a small town or village and seeing signs wishing the team well. The crowds might not be as large as the bigger school games, but to a certain extent, they are more into it. I believe that is because almost everyone knows everyone, and it is really a community by itself. The players put their pads on the same as the players at the bigger schools, and they, as with the bigger schools, give it their all as much as they can.
