Image
Kaleb Evans Lloyd Memorial High School. Quarterback  2026 Entering the 2023 season, what were your personal goals, and were you able to achieve those goals? My personal goals were to stay healthy. No, I got injured at the beginning of the year. What is the biggest thing you need to improve on to become a better quarterback? I need to become faster to add more than just me throwing the ball. What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?            My most embarrassing moment would be when we lost a game by 40 points. We should not have lost that much, and it was embarrassing that we did. How much time do you spend on your own study film as well as the time you spend doing so with the team? I spend time after school watching films, and I watch them all day on game day. We watch films as a team about 3 days a week and on Saturday morning after our game. Which type of defense is the hardest for you, as a quarterback, t...

Image
Ronald Lunz North Hardin High School, Radcliff, KY Receiver 2026 How long have you played football, along with the reason you continue to play? I have been playing football for 4 years. I continue to play the game because I love it. What were your personal goals heading into the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals? I am heading into my junior year. Regardless of the year I am going into, I have one goal, and that is to win a state title. Everything I do is to help my team win the state. What were the high and low points of your 2023 season? This season ended with some ‘technical’ difficulties that caused us to forfeit games. Our record as a team suffered from it. The high point is that it brought us together as a team. I am looking forward to building that. Coach Thompson does a good job keeping the team focused on the strengths of the team and not the distractions. What are you going to miss the most from the 2024 class? The leadership and brotherhoo...

2024 Interview with Logan Smith from Calloway County High School, Ky.

Image
Logan Smith Calloway County High School RB/LB 2026 What were your goals entering the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals?  I achieved most of my goals. I was selected All-Conference and selected Defensive POY by my teammates. Team goals fell short. I wanted to get to the playoffs, but that just makes me hungry for next season.  What were the high and low points of the 2023 season? The biggest low for me was the loss that eliminated us from the playoffs. The high point came with our team's first win. I felt like we were clicking.  Which road game did you like the least during the 2023 season, and why did you dislike it so much? Hopkinsville because I felt we could have played much better.  What are the best and worst parts of playing high school football? The best part is the teammates and friendships. I also love the competition and off-season grind. I’m not sure there is a bad part to playing football.  What do you believe i...

Image
Kolter Smith Position played: QB Louisville Male High School Class: 2024 Georgetown College What are you going to miss the most about playing high school football? Friday Night Lights, GAMEDAY, pep rallies, bus trips, and pregame meals with my teammates. What were your emotions walking off the field after your last high school game? I didn’t believe it was really over. I tried to keep it together for my teammates, but I honestly had a breakdown moment where I just wanted to get away and allow the emotions to flow. It’s very hard to explain, but it was a crazy sad moment. What made playing for Male so special? Tradition, both on and off the field. Having a strong winning program brings high expectations but also a lot of pride. Our alumni are so supportive, our Momma Dawgs take care of our team, we have the best coaches and staff in the state, and our school support makes Male a special place. What mark do you believe your class left on the football program? It was ver...

Image
Kyle Bossert Malvern High School Defensive End/Left Guard 2024 Capital University What were your personal goals heading into your senior season, and were you able to achieve those goals? Heading into the season, my goal was to play the revenge game. I wanted to win the IVC (our league), and I wanted to make things personal. Looking back at the season, I would say I accomplished my personal goals. As a small school, we beat a lot of big teams and proved a lot of people wrong. Not only did I get better as a player, but I also got better as a person by learning to fight through adversity. What are you going to miss the most about playing high school football? Playing with my friends and just having fun. Even in an intense game, you're doing it with the guys you care the most about. Who has been the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? The best player I can recall playing was Nick Petro, who was the quarterback at Sandy Valley High S...

2024 Interview with Bethel-Tate Head Coach and Dallas Cowboy Fan Jeff Essig

Image
Jeff Essig Betherl-Tate Head Coach What will you miss the most from the 2024 class? This was an extremely special class. First, it was my son's class. I had the pleasure of watching most of this group grow from the very beginning of their football careers as youth and middle school players. They leave here as league champions three out of the last four years.  Next season will be the first season over the last 18 years that my son will not be at a practice. He has attended practices since his birth, whether in a baby bijorn, riding his bike around the track, or as a player. It will be weird not having him around in some capacity. Looking back on the 2023 season, where you guys finished 7–5, What shocked you the most? The most shocking moment of 2023 was our slow start. We really felt like we let some of our earlier games on our schedule get away from us, but in true Bethel-Tate fashion, our guys did not let that bring them down. We got better and better each week. Our ...

2024 Interview with two-way Lineman Dane Smith from Lucasville Valley

Image
Dane Smith Valley High School in Lucasville, OH Offensive and defensive lines 2025 What were your personal goals for the 2023 season, and were you able to achieve those goals? I think being able to come back and play this season. My sophomore year, at the beginning of the year, I injured my knee and played the rest of the season. I didn’t think I’d be able to play this year, but I got the doctor's approval, and I came back. So that was definitely a goal I achieved this past season. What were the high and low points of your 2023 season? I think our highest point would have been our rival game against Minford. We shut them out 24-0. Another high-point game would’ve probably been our Grandview Heights game because it was a long, hard game that had its ups and downs. Our lowest probably would’ve been our West game because we weren’t able to produce anything on the offensive side of the ball. What will you miss the most from the 2024 class? probably the brotherhood from tha...

Image
Asher Avery Hart County Tackle, Guard 2024 What were your personal goals heading into your senior season, and were you able to achieve those goals? develop better as an athlete and help my team as much as I can. I was able to watch your season opener against Spencer County, and after the game, I walked away saying you guys were in for a good, if not great, season. How important was it for you guys to have kicked off the season with a win in the bowl game? A win in the bowl game set the tone for how the rest of the season should've been. Everybody knew we could go far after that game. What mark do you believe your class left the football program? I think we really set the standard for how Hart County Football should continue to play and try to strive to do the same things, if not more, than our class. What will you miss the most about playing high school football? I'm definitely going to miss my brothers and playing for Coach Griffin. What were the high and low ...

Image
Da'Von Martin Jr. DeSales High School WREC/SLOT/DB 2025 Heading into the 2023 season, what were your personal goals, and were you able to achieve those goals? Going into the season, my personal goal overall was to make a name for myself because I've been overlooked my whole life and had people doubt me multiple times, so proving myself was my main goal, and I completed it because I started getting some respect from the city and some division of interest. What were the high and low points of the 2023 season? My high points throughout the season were on a nine-game winning streak because everything was clicking, everyone was doing their assignments, and it helped us play better as a unit, which led to great results. I would say taking the few losses we had at the beginning of the season really molded us because it shaped us into men who faced a little adversity and bounced back. Who was the best player you have ever faced in a game, along with the team he played for? The...

Image
Jake Heigel Brockway High  Head Football Coach Who was the best player you have ever coached against, and what team did he play for? Carson Neely, Port Allegany  Looking back from day one as a coach up to the present, what have been the low and high points of your coaching career? 2020 was a rough first year. We had maybe 15 kids on the roster in preseason sometime in late June. We ended up with probably 6 starters who had never played football in their lives, which isn’t exactly a recipe for success! I was also ejected from our game against Cowanesque Valley. We lost to DuBois 49-0 to end the difficult season... The future did not look so bright. - But fast forward to 2022, where we won our first playoff game 62-6. Followed that up with a win against the reigning western finals champion, Redbank Valley, in a 7-3 fist fight to advance to the D9 championship. In 2023, we won an overtime thriller against DuBois Area 14–13, avenging a 1-point loss at the 1-yard line t...

2024 Interview with Jose Maldonado from Lucasville Valley High School

Image
Jose Maldonado Lucasville Valley High School  Offensive tackle/defensive tackle  2026 In 2023, you missed some time due to an injury. Can you tell everyone what the injury was and how the recovery process went? Yes, my injury was a cervical spine concussion, which is where the c2 area of your neck is extremely swollen. The recovery process was a struggle in the beginning since I had to wear a cervical collar for 6 weeks, but as it went along, it became a lot more manageable.  What was the high mark of your season? The high mark of my season was 100% when Valley played Minford at Minford and we won 24-0. Which side of the line do you enjoy playing on the most? I would say offense line because that is what I’m best at and what I have more experience in. Which side of the line is the toughest to play? Explain Offensive line because you have to protect the QB and do your job almost perfectly for a play to go the way your team anticipates.  What type of...

Image
Gabe McNeil Valley High School RB, LB, S, WR 2026 What makes playing high school football for Lucasville Valley special? Valley just has an amazing culture right now, and everyone wants to put in work in the off-season. The coaching staff is just phenomenal, and the kids are just bought in and dedicated to the program, which is amazing. What is the hardest part of being a student athlete in high school? I would say the hardest part about being a student athlete is trying to find a good balance between how much work you put in academically and athletically to get the best results of both.                                                                                               What were your goals heading into the 2023 season, and were yo...

Luke Toothaker  Franklin county  I’ve played tight end and defensive end. 2025  What were the high and low points of the 2023 season? Highs, I would say, were going into the playoffs with a 10-0 regular season. The lowest point of the season was the ending. We studied Boyle County all year, but in our semifinal game against them, we lost 44-14. What was your biggest accomplishment during the 2023 season? Our team became the winningest team in school history, going 13-1, as well as me filling in my role and my part on the team. During the 2023 season, who was the best player you faced in a game along. with the team he played for? Montavin Quisenberry of Boyle County was the best player we faced all season. He had fast acceleration as well as being shifty. During the regular season, which road stadium had the best overall atmosphere? Playing on the road week 1 against Great Crossing was the best away game atmosphere. The stands were packed, and it was a ...

Image
Wyatt Savage Piketon High School Linebacker/ Running back 2026 What is the toughest aspect of playing high school football? The student-athlete part. You have to remember that you are a student first. What is the most rewarding part of playing high school football? The family you build along the way. In watching your Hudl highlights, the way you play on the kickoff team looks special. Do you Pattern that part of your game from other players? No, but I always make sure to be aware of my teammates and where they are on the field, and I pattern where I go based on their positioning as well. I n reading your numbers from the weight room, do you think your strength shocks some of the guys you face in a game? Numbers are great on paper, but big numbers do not matter if you can’t apply them to the field, which I think I do well in, so yes. What were your personal goals heading into the 2023 season, and did you achieve those goals? Some of my personal goals were to be a leader and...
