Lakota slips by Arcadia, 28-21

 

My first ever trip to Arcadia was wonderful. I want to start by saying thank you to the person who made the decision to have the roster available at the ticket table. Then I wanted to let the PA Guy know what a nice job he did letting the fans know who was on each play. Lastly, though the stands on the away side were odd, it seemed to work for the fans sitting there, and the crowd overall for small school football was big and loud at times.

Lakota got the show started with Nick Elchert connecting with Reed Elchert for a twelve-yard gain, with 10:18 showing on the clock. The Raiders faced a fourth and two later in the drive, and they elected to go for it, and that decision was made to be the right one when Jaxon Sommers busted free for a 33-yard run to make it a 6-0 game, with 7:58 remaining in the opening quarter. Sommers was stuffed on the two-point conversion try by Carter Rank and Brody Coleman. The drive lasted for seven plays and went for sixty-eight yards.

The Redskins slowly moved the ball downfield, and on the eighth play of the drive facing a fourth and two, Tripp Brubaker hit the talented Nick Moes for the eighteen-yard score that was followed by strong-footed Brubaker's P.A.T. to make this 7-6 game, with 5:33 left in the quarter.

Graham Harmon busted a nice twenty-three-yard run to keep Uncle Mo on the visitors' side, with 3:10 left. The eight-play, sixty-five-yard drive ended on a Nick Elchert twents isx yard touchdown pass to Sommers. Colman batted the two-point conversion pass away, leaving this a 12-7 game, with 38:4 seconds left in the quarter.

Brubaker to Moes brought a big thirty-three-yard gain. Brubaker had a much better game than his final stats showed, as he had several catchable balls dropped by his receivers. Brubaker would throw a bad pick to Sommers when he tried to make something happen when the rush was coming hard. Sommers unofficially had 102 yards rushing and two interceptions and two touchdowns; he also had two fumbles.

Reed Elchert showed some nice skill when he broke off a twenty-six-yard run with 37.2 seconds left in the half to set the Raiders up first and goal on the seven. 21.3 seconds was left on the clock when AJ Goshe used the hard work by the right side of his line to ease into the end zone for the three-yard score. Goshe, who hits the hole hard, converted the two-point run to make this a 20-7 game.

Sommers would pick Brubaker off early in the third, but as he raced downfield, he coughed the ball up, and pouncing on it like a cowboy on a cup of cowboy coffee was Coleman, who also had a very solid showing in this one.

Brubaker would show he is dangerous as a runner when he broke free for thirty yards on a run where he showed some nice moves. Brubaker would be hit for a loss of four yards by Max Nordhaus, who is listed at 6-5, 280 pounds. Brubaker would shake the sack off by hitting Moes for a twelve-yard gain to set up a first and goal from the two-yard line, with 3:39 left in the third quarter. Brubaker would plough in from two yards out for the score. On the play he fumbled the ball, and it looked like his teammate, Chance Coleman, recovered it, though the refs said touchdown before the fumble. After Brubaker nailed the P.A.T., we had a 20-14 game. The drive lasted for thirteen plays and totalled eight yards.

Somers brought the Raiders fans to their feet with a twenty-nine-yard run, where he broke a tackle and then made a nasty move to pick up extra yards. The drive ended when Goshe coughed the ball up, and making the recovery for the Redskins was Kale Price, with under thirty seconds left in the quarter.

Sommers put the ball on the ground, and making the recovery for Arcadia was Kale Price. Bradt Kern sacked Brubaker for a big six-yard loss, with 11:19 remaining in the contest. Facing a fourth and three with 10:16 left, Brubaker hooked up with Moes for nine yards. Kadyn Fuerstenau got to Brubaker for a thirteen-yard loss, with 8:32 showing on the clock.

The game had 6:05 left when Jaxon Summers more than made up for his two fumbles when he acted like Bullet Bob Hayes and brought the crowd to a frenzy with a catch that went for an 84-yard game clinching touchdown. Goshe completed the scoring for Lakota with his two-point coversion run making the score 28-14 with 6:05 remaining.

Brubaker again used his feet to pick up nineteen yards and then he ended the drie with a three yard score. He ended the scoring for the night with his P.A.T. to make this a 28-21 game, with 3:28 left.
