Game Report/Meadowdale 32, Thurgood Marshall 0

My football doubleheader started at Welcome Stadium in Dayton, Ohio. The matchup was Thurgood Marshall vs. Meadowdale. Thurgood Marshall entered 1-4 overall but 1-0 in the City League. Meadowdale came in 1-4 overall. This was their league opener. Thurgood Marshall came in scoring a total of 48 points, and those points were scored in one game, as they have been shut out in four of their five games. They had given up a total of 176 points. Meadowdale had scored 28 points while giving up a total of 154.

Before getting into the game, I wanted to say that the Cougars should never be allowed to wear the jersey number color scheme again; they were nearly impossible to see. There might have been 200 fans total at this game, with many not even paying attention to the game. The players really deserve better, in my opinion.

The Cougars fumbled the opening kickoff away. I could not see who fumbled the ball or recovered it as the play took place on the far side of the field and the PA Guy was little help in calling plays out most of the day.
Both team defenses made the offenses look silly in the quarter.

The only significant play in the opening quarter came with 0:47 left on the clock when #8 Amari Jones got to the Cougars. Jayson Wilson-Martin for a loss. 

Haiden Wright from the Cougars looked to have made a nice play when he got to Dearonn Daniel for a loss of three with 11:06 left in the half, but Wright was called for a hands-to-the-face penalty, negating the play and giving the Lions a first down. A 12-yard run by    Elijah Harris had a personal foul penalty added on when Chau'Ron Gaines got a little too excited for the liking of the refs. This set up a first and goal from the four. The Lions would get a 6-yard touchdown run from Dearonn Daniel followed by a two-point conversion run from Elijah Harris to make this an 8-0 game, with 8:36 left in the half.

With 6:17 left in the half, Semaj Cochran came up big for the Lions when he got to Jayson Wilson-Martin for a short loss. After the Lions got the ball back, they quickly had to punt it away, where Marcus Mann downed the ball on the 1-yard line with 3:12 left. This became a 10-0 game when #63, not on either roster, blocked Teagen Jones and it rolled out of the end zone.

The last big defensive play of the half came when Robert Nash got to Lions quarterback Dearonn Daniel for a loss of 13 yards.

Dominick Ramsey got the Lions offense going in the third quarter when he dashed for a 30-yard gain. There was an additional 15 yards tacked on after a flag was thrown on the Cougars. Facing a fourth and three with 9:41 left in the quarter, the first down was made easy when the Cougars jumped offsides. The 8-play, 57-yard drive came to a close on an Amari Jones 2-yard touchdown run. After a two-point conversion run from Daniel, we had an 18-0 game, with 8:03 left in the quarter. 

At the 3:53 mark, Dominick Ramsey picked up 14 yards, giving the Lions a first and ten at the Cougars' 28-yard line. No points would be scored on the drive. The last big play of the quarter came when Dearonn Daniel was sacked by Jayren Ford and Rashawn Noble.

With 10:58 left in the game, we had a 26-0 lead after Ramsey used an O.J. Simpson-type move to go 60 yards for a touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion run from Daniel.

A bad snap caused a Cougars fumble that was recovered by the Lions' Semaj Cochran with 10:40 left. Two minutes later we had a 32-0 game when Daniel scooted in from a yard out.

The Lions' defense came up with two more plays before the game ended. First, Amari Jones came up with a fumble recovery, and then Daryl Metcalf got to Isaiah Wilson for a loss of five.
