Game Report/ Troy Christian 40 Lehman Catholic 14

After my game in Cincinnati, I slowly made my way to Sidney to cover the Troy Christian at Lehman Catholic game. I made a pit stop in Springboro, hitting the Sheetz, Popeye's, and Planet Fitness before getting to the game

The Troy Christian defense made the first statement of the game, when Justin Watkins picked off a bad pass by Quinten Graves just 0:41 seconds into the game. Gabe Wilkins cough the ball up on the ensuing drive, but fortunately for Troy Christian, Charlie Gremling pounced on it like a cougar on an elk to keep the drive alive.  With 8:45 left Wilkins atoned for his fumble by breaking three tackles and then raced for a 14-yard touchdown. Austen Taylor nailed the P.A.T. to make this a 7-0 game, with 6:51 left in the opening quarter.

Benton Verrill picked up 26 yards with a nice run to get things going for the Cavaliers. But the Eagles defense came up huge a couple of minutes later when Colton Southards took the ball away from the Cavaliers ball carrier and then took it to the house for the long 89-yard touchdown to make this a 14-0 game, with 4:31 left.

Jase Little sacked Graves for a loss of six, with 3:38 left. Graves day would get much worse by the time all was said and done. He would be picked off twice and fumble the ball away two times. The kid really looked like a running back playing quarterback. Graves recovered nicely from the sack with a run of 18-yards with 1:44 showing on the clock.

The drive continued into the second quarter, where Graves threw a screen pass to Verrill for a gain of twenty-five yards on third and long. Graves ended the 13-play, 80-yard drive with a 2-yard touchdown run. Graves was stopped on the two point try by 51, 24, and 44 not on the roster to keep this a 14-6 game with 9:20 left in the half.

Little broke off a 68-yard touchdown run where he busted through a tackle on his way to the end zone to make this a 21-6 score, with 7:45 left. The drive took just two plays and totaled 70 yards. 

With 5:23 left, Graves fumbled the ball away to #83, not on the roster, to put the Eagles offense right back on the field. This time the Cavaliers defense was up to the task, not allowing any more damage to be done.

 Gabe Wilkins would stuff Grant Sollmann for a loss of one at the 1:53 mark of the quarter. Graves would get picked by Charlie Byrer with 12.2 seconds left in the half. With 10.6 seconds left, Gabe Wilkins broke at least three tackles to go 49 yards for the score, making this a 28-6 game.

Just 0:18 seconds into the third quarter, Wilkins broke free for a 73-yard touchdown, making this a 34-6 game. Wilkins unofficially would end is night with 242 yards and three scores on 16 carries. The kid was on fire.

With 4:47 left in the quarter, Austen Taylor stepped onto the field for a 49-yard field goal that he nailed to make this a 37-6 game. The drive totaled 73 yards, taking 9 plays.

The last big play of the quarter came on a 27-yard run from Wilkins. The drive came to an end with 9:38 left in the game when Taylor booted a 38-yard field goal, making this a 40-6 game, with 9:38 remaining. The drive went for 47 yards on 5 plays.

Grant Sollmann take the ensuing kickoff on his own 2 yard line and nearly took it to the house but was knocked out of bounds at the Eagles 12 yard line. Verrill broke through two tackles to score from 12 yards out. Graves found  Sollmann for the two-point conversion to end the scoring, making the final score 40-14.
