Game report Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 34 Akron Garfield 0

It had been a couple of years since I had covered a game at Kenmore Stadium in Akron. The match up was Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy at Akron Garfield. This would be my first time covering CVCA. Before getting into the game, I wanted to say thank you to all of those from Garfield for the hospitality, including a seat in the press box and the rosters from both schools.

The Royals got things started quickly with Mason Frye using nice work from his line, nice field vision, and speed to race for a gain of twenty. The nine play, sixty-five yard ended on a three yard run from Tommy Kopec. Carson Warren connected on his P.A.T. making this a 7-0 game, with 7:57 left on the clock.

The Rams converted a third and eleven when, Garland Merkins ran for fourteen yards at the 4:09 mark of the quarter. Coley Sheldon was blasted by the Royals,  Kopec holding the talented runner to little to nothing on the play.

In the last 0:23 seconds of the quarter each team would turn the ball over. Kopec would cough the ball up and making the recovery for the Rams was, Kemonte Harrison. Darius Sales gave the ball right back to the Royals when he threw an ugly pick to Moses Bader.

On the ensuing Royals drive Zac Anderson ran for thirty yards with additional yardage added to the play with the Rams being called for horse collar tackle, with 11:49 left in the half. The 5 play, forty seven yard came to an end on a one yard touchdown run from Alex Mammone to make this a 14-0 game, with 10:19 left.

Sales threw his 2nd pick of the day with Jackson Crews taking the rock back fifty-five yards for a pick six making this a 21-0 game, with 8:12 left in the half.

The Rams converted a fourth and five when Sales rushed for twelve yards, at the 4:30 mark of the quarter. Sales would throw his third pick of the afternoon when Bader read the play like a book, picked off the pass and took it to the house, but a flag on the return took the points off of the scoreboard.

Six plays and fifty five yards later we had a 28-0 game when Kopec made like Archie Griffin racing twenty one yards for the score, with a little under 1:00 left in the one-sided half.

With 7:50 left in the third, Reed Jones did his best LaDainian Tomlinson impression galloping 27 yards and then a flag on the Rams took the ball to the Rams four yard line. Jones capped the scoring off with the four yard touchdown run to make this a 34-0 game.

The Royals defense had two more outstanding plays left in them before the running clock ended the game. First, Sales was sacked for an 11 yard loss by Jace Manke and he was injured on the play and did not return. Let's all pray he recovers quickly. The last big play came when Andre Davis was tossed like a rag doll by Ethan Smith for a loss of seven.
