Game Report: Barnesville 48 Monroe Central 8


 

The last time I made a drive to Barnesville was back in 2020, and in that game Barnesville thrashed Buckeye Local. Well. Last night I made a return trip and have to say again the crowd was large; the stadium, now with turf and LED lights, looked wonderful.

The Shamerocks had gained 12 yards on their first three plays, and then they would get a 62-yard drive by Senior Trey Tolliver to make this a 6-0 game. Linas Graef calmly came in and booted the P.A.T., making this a 7-0 game, with 10:09 left on the clock. Tolliver is as excellent as any back I have watched this season, and as fast as they come.

Bane Stephen would get the ball right back when he recovered a Monroe Central fumble, with 9:20 left in the quarter. The fumble came after a catch. Two plays later, thanks to a Tolliver 24-yard spring, we had a 14-0 game, with 8:34 still left in what was becoming a very one-sided opening quarter.

The Shamrocks' defence would get another nice play, this one from Phoneix Graham, who got to Owen Howard for a loss of two. From there, the Semoles would be forced to punt the ball away a short time later.

Barnesville would get a Colt Carpenter to Jaxten Swallie pass good for 45 yards on a play where Swallie was well behind the Monroe Central secondary. The 5-play, 72-yard drive ended with Tolliver prancing in from 7 yards out, making this a 21-0 game, with 4:09 left in the quarter.

Talon Anderson dropped Jett Kaiser for a loss of seven to highlight the Sharocks' next defensive series, with 2:19 showing on the clock.

Once Barnesville got the ball back right before the quarter ended, Colt Carpenter took off for a gain of 21 yards. Carpenter runs the rock as well as he throws it.

The 3-play, 83-yard drive came to an end just eight seconds into the 2nd quarter with Carpenter finding a wide open Evan Carpenter for a 47-yard score, making this a 28-0 game.

Roman Deroam got to Hunter Habig, dropping him for a loss of six, with 10:52 left in the half. After getting the ball back, Carpenter connected with Joel Delting for a gain of 41 yards, with 8:51 left. The Shamrocks' offense is superdangerous throwing or running the ball. As long as their offensive line is on, this team on offense will be a nightmare for anyone on their schedule. With 6:27 left in the half and facing a fourth and sixteen, Barnesville would elect to go for it, and that decision turned to gold when Evan Carpenter went 24 yards for the score on a play where he busted a couple of tackles to score. After the P.A.T., we had a 35-0 game, with 6:27 left in the half. Cole Atkinson got to Habig for a loss of six to highlight the next defensive series for Barnesville.

Tolliver capped off the first half scoring with a 16-yard score out of the Wildcat, making this a 42-0 at the half. Unofficially, Barnesville held a 374-31 total yard advantage.

The second half flew by with the running clock rule being put into effect. Wyatt Leek would get a pick for Barnsville with 10:11 left in the third. With 3:32 left, this became a 48-0 game when Mac Baroski scored from 3 yards out

In the final frame, Rex Carpenter was sacked by the Seminoles Legend Shaffer at the 6:40 mark. At the 2:01 mark, Jameson Littleton made a big play for Barnesville when he got to Ryjker Lake for a loss of seven. Habig made a leaping catch at the Shamrocks' 1-yard line to set up a 1-yard run from Lyle Michener to give us a final score of 48-6.
