2026 Getting to know Seth Antram Youngstown High School
Name: Seth Antram
School/town: Youngstown High School/Youngstown, Ohio
Positions: Head Football Coach/Dean
College: Youngstown State University
Would you let the readers know about your coaching career? From your first job to your current
job?
I started coaching in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 2008. I moved back to the Youngstown
area in 2015. At that time, I took a job teaching PE for Youngstown City Schools and served
two seasons as an offensive quality control coach for YSU. After two seasons there, Chaney
brought football back after not fielding a team in 10 years. Chris Amill was hired as the head
coach, and hired me as his offensive coordinator. I served as the OC at Chaney for three
seasons, then was hired as the head coach at Boardman High School. After a season there,
Coach Chris moved to North Carolina to take a head coaching job there. At that time, I was
hired back at Chaney as the head coach. After four seasons at Chaney, Chaney and East
merged to form Youngstown High School. I was fortunate to be named the head coach for this
merger.
What will be the biggest obstacle getting players to forget the long time rivalry between them
and become a cohesive unit?
To me, our biggest obstacle wasn’t necessarily the long-time rivalry, but more of the concept of
something being new and unfamiliar. Football is a team sport built on relationships, discipline
and hard work. Those traits can take months and even years to build so to ask players to buy
into something that they’re not familiar with can be difficult. We have had a great off season
and you can see all players growing and appreciating each other as well as becoming familiar
with each other and new concepts and a new culture.
What offense will you run?
We will gear our offense to the strength of our players. I prefer a spread option scheme, but we
do have some great lineman that could really be a positive impact on our run game this season.
We have the ability to be a power run team with options attached to put the defense at a
disadvantage.
What defense will you run?
We plan to be based out of a four-down scheme, but have the bodies to be multiple and move
to a three down when needed. Just like our offense, our defensive scheme will play to the
strengths of our players.
How will team captains be chosen?
During the off-season, we have had multiple players step up and lead in their own way. Some
players are vocal leaders, some lead by example and some are a combination of both.
Captains will be picked by the players with accountability, leadership and attendance in mind.
What are your goals for the season?
Our goals for the season include laying the foundation for years to come in Youngstown. We
plan to capitalize on this merger to put a great competitive team on the field that plays hard, fast
physical football.
What will the team motto be this year?
Our district has adopted the mottos of, “One vision, One Youngstown,” we have taken
ownership with that and added, “One Team” to it.
Who are some of the coaches you have learned from?
I began coaching in Jacksonville, North Carolina and was able to learn under a Hall of Fame
Coach, Chip Williams. His son was our head coach, Beau Williams. Chip was former head
coach and ran the offense, Beau was an amazing defensive mind. I also spent time at YSU
under head coach Bo Pelini and offensive coordinator Shane Montgomery. Chris Amill, the
former head coach at Chaney has also been a great influence on me, as well as my former high
school coach Paul Cusick.
What are three non-negotiables to play for you?
To play for me, you have to love the game of football, love the process of becoming a TEAM,
and be willing to make football a priority.
If the Browns do get their dome should the state finals be moved there?
Football is extremely important in Northeast Ohio, and Ohio as a whole. There are many great
places across the state to hold the state finals. When I was in North Carolina, divisions rotated
between UNC, NC State, Wake Forest and Duke. I think it gave players and teams a change to
travel and see different stadiums. I think it would be a good idea to add the Browns new
stadium on a rotation in the future.
What will you do to ensure your players are involved in all-star games after the season?
With the way media is today, players stats and highlights are readily available to colleges and
other high school coaches. I try to do everything I can to add to that to promote our players to
the recognition they deserve and opportunities after high school.
Outside of coaching what are you doing for fun?
Honestly right now with the off season rolling and the process of the merger, there isn’t a lot of
free time. But when I get it, I enjoy anything outside and spending time with family and friends.
What was the last book that you read, along with the author?
The last book I read was, “Culture Creators” by Willie Spears. He is a football coach and
motivational speaker.
If you listen to podcast do you have a favorite one?
I don’t listen to podcasts that often, but if I do, it’s about football and coaching. I do not have a
favorite.
