(Girls State Final) Portsmouth 53 Ottawa-Glandorf 48
A tight start to this game would see both teams playing at a pretty fast pace with Ottawa-Glandorf taking a 15-14 lead. Both teams started out pretty intense and physical. Even though 29 points were scored in the quarter both teams had some nice defensive moments.
In the 2nd quarter Portsmouth quickness and defense started to slow down Ottawa-Glandorf allowing their offense to get some easy shots. Portsmouth hit over 70% of their shots in the half. The physicality from both teams continued but as the half grew older it was favoring Portsmouth, as O.G. went over three minutes without scoring a field goal. 15 points from superfast Keke Woods 6-6 from the field was a big difference in the half, for Portsmouth. There were ten lead changes in the half before Portsmouth took a seven point lead to the locker rooms, 31-24.
O.G. came out and scored the first three point of the third quarter and forced to fouls on the Trojans. With 5:34 left in the third Woods scored the first two pints of the half for the Trojans. Woods would again be the difference as the Trojans would build their lead back to seven. From there though Woods would show she was human with a couple of turnover and fouls. O.G. would take advantage of this with a nice spurt to cut the lead to 39-37 mainly do to the play off Madison McKee who had 16 of her teams points. Woods had 22 of her teams points.
The fourth quarter was more physical play from both teams, with players hitting the floor left and right. With 5:17 left the score was 43-41 Portsmouth. With 4:02 left it was 46-45 Portsmouth. Woods, at this point was 11-11 from the field with 26 points and 7 boards. The Trojans would hold on to win the game 53-48, and with that they are back-to-back state champions. This was the first loss of the season for O.G. who ends 28-1. Portsmouth ends with a 24-4 record.
For the game Woods ended with 26 points and 8 boards. She was 11-11 from the field, 4-7 from the free throw line, and she had 5 steals. Sienna Allen had 13 points and 3 boards. She was doubled and triple teamed most of the game. For O.G. Karsyn Erford ended with 18 points and 4 steals. McKeeended with 16 points and 10 boards.
Portsmouth connected on 62.1% of their shots while O.G. hit 40.5%.
