Please post something from last season that sticks out to you. It can be from a game, practice, or something funny on the bus ride to or from the game. Any moment that sticks out to you.

This was the last year coaching for Coach McSurley. I am very grateful to be a part of the final senior class he coached.

What were your feelings as you walked off the field for the last time as a member of the Clinton Massie football team?

Taft really took it to us in the playoffs. By halftime, we knew that it was most likely our last game, which made it a little easier. It was still a very sad moment.

What do you feel you will miss the most from playing high school football?

That feeling of tearing through the paper sign under the lights. Nothing else compares.

What was the biggest lesson that you learned from playing high school football?

Hard work pays off.

Of all the wins that you were part of, which one meant the most? Explain

Knocking off Coldwater was a huge win. My freshman year, the freshman team went to Moeller and beat them 40-6.

Which loss stung the most?

It was my freshman year coming off a state championship, and we lost our first game to Waynesville. It was brutal.

What was the best part of your senior season?

I set a goal at the start of my senior season to make All-Ohio, and I did!

What was the toughest part of your senior season?

I hurt my wrist in the first round of the playoffs. I was able to play round two but was nowhere near as effective as I could have been.

Who was the best player that you faced in a game, along with the team he was on?

Monsanna Torbert, Taft. That kid is electric on both sides of the ball.

What was your biggest moment as a high school football player?

Heading—topping a defender in the back of the end zone to go up 6-0 versus the defending D6 state champs, Coldwater.

What was the best part of the recruiting process?

I loved seeing how all the years in the weight room and 2-a-days had paid off. It’s a great feeling when you can tell that the coach really sees something in you and wants you to be part of their program.

Do you feel that the transfer portal in college sports has made it more difficult for high school players to be recruited?

Overall, I feel it has made it much more difficult. There are just so many guys with years of development fighting for the D1 and D2 scholarships.

Would you share with the readers some of the schools that recruited you?

Hocking College, Rio Grande, Otterbein, Bluffton, Wittenberg, Defiance

What made you choose Mount St. Joe?

The coaching staff seemed very interested in me. They had a winning culture that was similar to what I was used to.

What is your favorite class or subject?

Algebra, I like when things have a pattern or formula; follow the directions.

Who are your role models?

My grandfather, he is just an overall great person that has been there for me through everything. He is going through some really tough times right now. Grandpa, I love you!

What is a style or fad that your generation has that you do not get or understand?

Jorts. You will not catch me in them.
