(Girls) Clay 44 East Clinton 26
Used MaxPreps for the records and Hudl for the East Clinton roster.
Yesterday I made my way to Portsmouth to take in the girls basketball game between East Clinton and Clay high schools. East Clinton came in looking for their first win of the season, while Clay was hoping to add win number 11 to their record and pick up their fifth win in a row. Clay only has six girls on their roster, and in this game they were only able to dress five.
Early on East kept it close, trailing by six after one. Things would change in the second half thanks to Emma Emnett and Ava Demorest, who both started to find their shooting touch. For the game Emnett finished with 30 points, 7 steals, 5 assists, and 5 boards. Demorest had 9 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 3 boards.
East Clinton would keep pace in the third as both teams scored seven. Sahara Tate showed when she has time to shoot the three, she is dangerous. For the game I had her with three threes with 11 total points.
The fourth quarter, like the three before, was very physical; East would have three total girls foul out. I told one of the fans sitting beside me I have seen wrestling matches with less contact than this game. I spoke to Coach Emnett after the game, and we spoke of all the contact. It was great to meet the coach after I had done an online basketball interview with him earlier this season. Clay would score 14 in the quarter, while East had 11.
Kenzi Terrell and Maci Lilly had 4 points for East Clinton. For Clay, their three other players were able to contribute to the win in various ways. Mia Lunsford had 7 boards and 5 points. Maddie Penix had 8 boards, 2 assists, and a steal. Caroline Ridenour totaled 7 boards and 5 points.
