How long have you been playing basketball, and who, or what got you started?
I’ve been playing basketball since my 8th grade year, and I would say I fell in love with playing the sport because you can play it while going through something to get your head off of real-life problems, and it will keep you off the streets, and it will keep you out of trouble.
What are your goals for this season?
My goals for this season are to bring home another city championship while being able to host playoffs at our house, and my goals for this are to make it far in states and just make better bonds with people, also improving on my game, my play style, and my attitude.
What goals have you set for your team?
The goal I have set for the team is to not give up while we are going through adversity. Also, to hear each other's input on a situation.
Point guard or shooting guard—which one do you feel you are better at?
I would say shooting guard because we have a great point guard, Havi, and he sets up in any way so I can help the team win.
Point guard or shooting guard—which one do you feel is tougher to play?
I would say point guard only because the ball is in your hands the entire game, basically, and you have to keep control of the ball while setting your entire team up to run our offense.
What is the toughest aspect of being a student athlete?
I would say the toughest aspect of being a student athlete is being in class with friends and being able to manage your behavior while also maintaining a good GPA.
Who is the best player you have faced in a game, along with the team he was on?
I would have to give it to the man “Ice Taylor” that plays on the Hawken High School basketball team.
What is the toughest part of a Rhodes basketball practice?
I would say the running, even though it helps, but we run 10 suicides each day with a 30-second break for each one, but it helps. I love my coach Shawn Spencer; he knows exactly what he’s doing.
What makes you a good teammate?
I’m very patient; I hear my teammates’ and coach’s input, and I listen to what they have to say instead of doing what I want to do. I give my all when I’m out on the court so my coach and peers know I’m not playing when I’m out there; I bring them up, encourage them, etc.
What is the strongest part of your game?
I would say I’m way more patient, and decision-making is more on point, but the strongest part of my game is shooting the ball.
What has been your biggest moment on the court?
I would say me starting in the Hawken game because I had a great game, and it boosted my confidence while being able to keep that starting spot.
Where should the state finals be?
I think state finals should be held at Ohio State because it just sounds right, you know.
What scares me?
I would say getting hurt and being out for a full season—I just don’t think I’m ready for that.
Who is your favorite athlete?
Darius Garland
What is your favorite class or subject?
I would say my favorite class is algebra because it’s like basketball because of the cuts and angles. You learn that in math as well, so I understand it.
