West Muskingum 50 Lakewood 32

 


My second game of the 2-25-2026 season took me to West Muskingum High School to watch the Tornados kick their season off against the Lakewood Lancers (1-0). Lakewood tipped their season off last week with a win over Amanda Clearcreek. These two teams hooked up last season, with West Muskingum winning 44-38.

This was a 4-point game after the opening quarter, with West Muskingum leading 15-11. The 2nd quarter was a head scratcher that left a scout from another team laughing at how one-sided the officiating had become, helping the lead balloon to 31-15.

I.M.O. West Muskingum would have won the game with or without officiating that made the scout laugh, and several others just shook their heads. West Muskingum had a very balanced attack, with Debra Allen leading the way with 14 points. She hit four three-pointers. Teriauna Branford and Jayden Thornton added 11 apiece. For the Lancers, Lyla Brunner scored 22 of her team's 32 points. The scoreboard had her with 21. She had two three-pointers, 6 free throws, and five two-point baskets.

Lakewood hosts Johnstown on Dec 2nd, according to the Max Preps schedule. West Muskingum will travel to Byesville Meadowbrook on Dec 3rd.
