Northeastern (South Vienna) 59 Rock Hill 00

Using rosters from Hudl and MaxPreps

Friday night I made my first trip to Springfield Northeastern to catch the Jets playoff game against Rock Hill. The crowd was larger than I expected it to be, and for the most part, all of them stayed even when the game had gotten very one-sided.

Cody Houseman carried all three times on the Jets opening drive, with the final carry going for the game's first score, a 5-yard touchdown run. Houseman also carried the two-point conversion to make this an 8-0 game, with 8:54 left on the opening quarter clock.

The Jets defense roared very loud with 7:50 showing on the clock, with Kaleb Moone tossing Braylon McClellan down for a loss of three. At the 3:16 mark the Jets defense was at it again, with Jackson Jones throwing freshman quarterback Jarrod Bridges down for a loss of six. Bridges would find Cah Lyons for a 69-yard gain, with 2:44 left in the fast-moving quarter. The drive came to a close when Bridges was picked off by Rhet Lough, with 1:44 left in the quarter. Before the quarter ended, Jones galloped to a 60-yard gain.

Houseman took the ball to the Rock Hill 8-yard line, but a fumble happened soon after, and Rock Hill came out of the pile with the ball. On the Rock Hill drive, Kelan Davidson muscled his way to a 12-yard gain. Bridges would take a sack when Jones and Luke Mefford got to him for a loss of eleven, forcing a punt. On the punt, Jones blocked the kick setting the Jets up first and goal on the Redmen's four-yard line, with 8:05 left in the half. Diezel Taylor would go the 4 yards for the score, followed by the two-point conversion run by Jacoby Newman, making this a 16-0 game.

The Jets were flying high again with 3:11 left in the half when Jacoby Newman went 75 yards for a touchdown; he also converted the two-point run, making this a 24-0 game.

On the ensuing kickoff, Aaron Workman fumbled the ball, and making the recovery for the Jets was Ashton Arantz. One play later, Taylor found Luke Mefford for a 40-yard score. Taylor converted the two-point run to make this a 32-0 game. That made three plays from scrimmage for the Jets, all resulting in touchdowns.

In the final 0:19 of the half, the Jets would get a Taylor-to-Jacoby Newman 36-yard touchdown pass followed by the PAT by Chris Mendoza to make this a 39-0 game.

The second half went quickly with the clock running. The score went to 46-0 on a 35-yard houseman score and the PAT by Mendoza. After Blaine Lusk recovered a fumble by McClellan, the Jets offense would get another chance to fly. A 35-yard run by Houseman got things started. Taylor threw a touchdown pass to Jackson Jones, making this a 53-0 game.

The only score in the final stanza came on a 47-yard Houseman run to make this a 59-0 game.
