Please post a small recap of last season with something like a big game you had, something about a certain game, something from a bus ride to or from the game, or something that sticks out from a practice.
Throughout my junior season, I think the best game I had was against East High School; I had 3 tackles for loss and forced a fumble in the second half. Another moment is when I forced a fumble against Beechcroft in the first half that led to my teammate Daviontae Jefferson getting a scoop and score.
How long have you played football, and who, or what, got you started?
I’ve been playing football since I was in 8th grade, and that was the first time my mom let me play anything other than flag football.
Whetstone was able to win three games this season, up from just one win in 2024? What do you think led to the improvement?
I think it was definitely the culture change; we wanted it more than we did last year, and that made a huge difference.
The Braves ended the season, winning the last two games of the season. How satisfying was it sending the senior class off with a win?
It was amazing, especially since it was my first time winning in rivalry week. It starts us off with a win streak for next year.
Of the three wins, which one meant the most to you? Explain
The win that meant the most to me was Beechcroft because it had been so many years since Whetstone beat Beechcroft, and it was the first game that the rest of the city league took us seriously.
Of the losses, which one stung the most? Explain
The loss that stung the most was East because we were really in it, and it felt like we really could have proved everybody wrong that week.
Which team that you faced this season was the best? Along with the thing that made them so good?
The best team that we faced this year was Youngstown East; they had the most size, and we were surprised with them having 2 schools combined into one.
Who was the best player that you faced this season, along with the team he was on?
Henry Ohlinger, he plays for Grandview.
So many schools are experiencing low numbers for their football teams. As a player, what do you do to try and encourage your classmates to give football a try?
I just tell them that they could always try it out, and anybody would help with numbers, whether it’s starters or people helping the starters prepare.
Looking ahead to next season, what do you as a player think you guys need to do to improve on the three wins for this season?
I think just staying focused on the task at hand and staying in the weight room working more than the rest of the city would help us improve.
Which road stadium this season was the toughest to play in, along with what made it so tough?
Youngstown East, it was hot, and they had turf that made it hotter. They also had a good crowd there, and we were so far that we didn’t have many people there for us.
What were the best and worst parts of the 2025 season?
The best part was our determination, and the worst part was the lack of work ethic at times.
What scares you?
To be quite honest, I’m not very scared at all of next season. I think we’re going down a good path, and nothing really makes me afraid.
Who are your role models?
My coaches and my teammates that graduated before me.
What is your favorite class or subject?
Math
