Friday night I drove to Johnstown, Ohio, to watch the rival game between Northridge and Johnstown.Though I have watched both teams play before, I had never taken in this matchup. The crowd, as expected, was large and loud, especially early.

The ground-and-pound Johnnies shocked the Vikings by going to the air one minute into the game, with the result being a 39-yard completion from Luke Carter to Greyson Goodman, the 6-4, 245-pound tight end. If not for the tackle by Jamie Odrumsky, the play would have resulted in a touchdown. The 3-play, 58-yard drive ended on a 5-yard touchdown run by Ryan Sager, making this a 6-0 game.

With 5:21 showing on the clock, the Johnnies would end an 8-play, 43-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run from Landon Myers. After Tyler Sheets ran in the two-point conversion try, we had a 14-0 game. All eight players on the drive were running plays, with most of them going for a few yards at a time as the offense slowly took the will away from the Vikings defense.

Northridge would get a nice 17-yard run from shifty running Jayce Golden to get things going for the offense. Brayden Bingham took off for 22 yards to keep the offense going. Golden would go the final 16 yards to get the Vikings on the board, and the PAT was good, with Charlie Kinkead doing the honors to make this a 14-7 game, with 2:51 left in the quarter.

Spencer Orgill made the first big play for the Vikings defense when he got to Kaden Carpenter for a loss of three. The Carter-to-Greyson Goodman connection struck again with 10:52 remaining in the half; this time the gain was for 19 yards. Goodman was wide open for the 2nd time in the game. Myers would pick up 11 yards to help set up a 13-yard touchdown run by Sager to make this a 20-7 game. Sheets was stopped by Lincoln Walton on the two-point conversion try.

The Vikings elected to go for it on fourth and two from their own 27-yard line after a time-out. The Johnnies' defense was not fooled, as Preston Carey easily stopped Golden well short of the first down marker. That play seems to changethe game from there, the johnnies basically did what they wanted, when they wanted.

The Johnnies need 5 plays to go the 27 yards needed for the score after the big stop by the defense. Scoring was Myers on a 6-yard run with 31 seconds left in the half. Sheets easily converted the two-point conversion, making this a 28-7 game.

Sagar would break a couple of weak tackling attempts on his way to a 15-yard pickup, with 7:17 left in the fast-moving third quarter. Luke Carer would rush for 24 yards to help set up the 19-yard touchdown from Myers, who easily broke a tackle or two on his way to pay dirt, with 6:45 left in the quarter. Sheets converted another two-point conversion run, making this a 36-7 game.

The Vikings offense would respond with a 34-yard catch from Colton Isler on a nicely thrown ball from quarterback Ty Koehler. Golden took the ball to the Johnstown 1-yard line with a 7-yard run. With 3:31 left in the quarter, Golden plowed in for the 1-yard score. Koehler found Jamie Odrumsky to complete the two-point conversion try to make this a 36-15 game.

The Johnnies responded with an 80-yard drive using ten running plays, with Myers capping the drive off with a 4-yard run. Sheets converted another two-point conversion to make this a 44-15 game.

The last touchdown came on a beautifully run option play with Sagar going 51 yards for the score. Liam Deering finally got to show off his big leg as he nailed the PAT, making this a 51-15 game, with 11:11 left.

The Johnnies' defense made the last big play of the game when Sladen Fouch picked off the Vikings' pass, with 4:48 showing on the fourth quarter clock.
