Gahanna 44 Grove City 20
Using the roster from the O.C.C. website for Grove City and from Hudl for Gahanna
Friday night I made the short drive to Grove City to watch the Dawgs host Gahanna. Grove City entered 4-4, while Gahanna entered 6-2. The crowd was impressive and at times very loud.
Gahanna would get a nice 28-yard run from Leon Cummings with 8:34 left in the opening quarter. Cummings #21 would end the 5-play, 62-yard drive with a 32-yard touchdown run to make this a 6-0 game. Sutton Donohew was true on his PAT, making this a 7-0 game, with a little under 8:00 showing on the clock.
Carson Welsh found Owen Steele for 33 yards, but the drive fizzled quickly after the long gain.
Cooper Sayre would drop Marki Wallace for a loss of two after Wallace made a tough catch, with 1:08 left in the quarter. Cummings would end the big plays in the quarter with a 23-yard run.
Grove City would end a 2-play, 85-yard drive when Welsh found Steele, who avoided a would-be tackler to go 80 yards for the score. Ryan Douglass locked the game up at seven with his PAT, with 10:27 left in the half.
Grey Kegley was able to connect with #12 Colby Smith for 41 yards, with 9:37 showing on the clock. Cummings sprinted for 17 yards, then Kegley ended the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Elston, making this a 14-7 game, with 7:18 left in the half.
The Dawgs would block a Gahanna punt; Brieon Savage pounced on the ball, setting the Dawgs offense up on the Gahanna 17-yard line, with 4:38 left in the half. Welsh would find a leaping Steele for the score, locking this game up at fourteen.
Gahanna used a 21-yard run by Trey Wilson to set up a 31-yard field goal from Donohew as time ran out in the first half to put the Golden Lions up 17-14.
The scoreboarddid not work in the second half, so there was no way to track at what point in the half anything took place.
In the third, Gahanna dominated scoring on a 73-yard run by Wilson, then on a 16-yard pass from Kegley to Elston, followed by a 53-yard defensive score by Cummings, who took the ball away from Welsh to make this a 37-14 game. The third would also bring a 35-yard pass play from Welsh to Steele. And a fumble by Kegley that Gabe Rodriguez pounced on to give the Dawgs the ball.
Blaike Jackson rumbled for 17 yards to set Grove City on the Gahanna 8-yard line. Jackson would follow that with the 7-yard run, putting the ball on the Gahaana 1-yard line. Welsh made this a 37-20 game with his 1-yard run.
Gahanna would use up most of the time left in the game with a 14-play, 65-yard drive ending with a 1-yard touchdown run from Kellen Rachal to make the final score 44-20 Gahanna.
