Columbus East 43 Dayton Ponitz Tech 16

Using the roster from MaxPreps for East and the DPS webpage for the Ponitz roster

Last night I drove the short drive to watch the Columbus East Tigers host Ponitz Career Tech out of Dayton. Before the game I spoke with Coach Bell as I usually do before the game, and he said we are going to take the ball first. That was a little shocking, as he said we usually start on defense. That would be the only shock on the night, as the Tigers improved to 8-1 on the season with a 43-16 win. Ponitz fell to 1-8 as their tough year continued.

The Tigers roared loudly on the opening kickoff when #3 Ta'john Royster fielded the kick and raced 78 yards for the score. Dominique Edwards made this an 8-0 game with the two-point conversion just eleven seconds into the game.

The Tigers' defense would get a nice play from #21 Davion Lindsey, who got to #6 (not on the roster) for a loss of three yards. Once the Tigers offense got back on the field, Darion Matlock hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass thrown by #1 to make this a 14-0 game. The Tigers would go up 20-0 before the quarter came to a close when Edwards caught a 24-yard pass from #1.

At the 9:33 mark of the second quarter, #1 found Edwards for a 21-yard touchdown. Matlock caught the two-point conversion pass to put the Tigers up 28-0. The Tigers scored again around the 7:00 mark when #3 Ta'john Royster caught a 32-yard touchdown pass, followed by a two-point conversion run from #1, making this a 36-0 game.

Ponitz would get a 29-yard completion from Shameer Cunningham to Marcellus Watkins, but that would be the biggest play on the drive that produced zero points.

With 1:46 left in the half, #7 Sirr McKinney scooped up a Ponitz fumble and raced 105 yards for the score. #31 hit the PAT to make this a 43-0 game.

Most of the 2nd half was played with a running clock. The Golden Panthers would get a 65-yard touchdown run from #6, followed by a two-point conversion with Shameer Cunningham hitting #45 Odell Swanson to make this a 43-8 game, with 11:13 left in the third. #6 would get a pick for the Golden Panthers in the end zone to keep this a 43-8 game, with 1:48 left in the third.

#6 would pick up 16 yards on a nice run for the Golden Panthers, with 10:34 left in the game. Cunningham picked up 17, with 7:50 left. A 3-yard touchdown run by #30 Cardair'e Johnson and a two-point conversion by #15 Tyler Hinton ended the scoring, giving us a 43-16 final.

East would get a 27-yard run from #33 and a fumble recovery by #16. Marquez Pritchett before the game came to a close.
