Late safety gives Adena the 8-7 win over the Cincinnati Eagles

Using the Hudl roster for Adena. The Eagles' roster comes from their program from their game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Friday night took me to Afena High School in Frankfort, Ohio, for the first time. The matchupwas the visiting Cincinnati Eagles facing the hometown Adena Warriors. The Eagles came in 2-1, while Adena was 0-2.In the season Adena had scored just 7 points while giving up 57. For the Eagles, they had scored 59 points and had given up 48, with 36 of those points coming against Switzerland County, IN.

Grady Hayden went straight up; the guy of the Eagles defense busted through two would-be tacklers on his way to a 16-yard gain. Later on the drive, with 6:21 showing on the opening quarter clock, facing a fourth and two, Fisher Schaaf scored from 11 yards out on a nice run. Blake Caudill missed the PAT, leaving this a 6-0 game with 6:21 left in the quarter.

Jacoby Mooneyham would connect with Lincoln Womack for a gain of eighteen. David Warner stopped the play from going any further with a hard tackle. Jordan Jacobson lost 2 yards when Ethan Elick brought him down. Mooneyham found Womak for the 6-yard touchdown, followed by the PAT from Noah Rogers to give the Eagles a 7-6 lead, with 44:1 seconds left on the clock.

Defense would rule the nest for the rest of the game. Just 0:53 seconds into the 2nd quarter, #85 got to Elick for a loss of four. A bad snap on a punt led to the Warriors losing a yard. The Eagles were stopped on a fourth-and-one try when Mooneyham was stopped by Grant Rawlings, with 8:03 left in the half. Mooneyham threw a pick to Joey Francis, with 4:31 left. I spoke to Coach Goodpastor, and he said the ball slipped from his quarterback's hand because it was wet. Rogers would pounce on a Warriors fumble at the Eagles' 1-yard line.

Jacobson was stopped for a short loss by Chuck Saxour to force an Eagles punt. That was the third tackle for loss by Saxour. Later in the third quarter, the Warriors turned the ball over on downs when Elick picked up 7 yards when he needed eight. Rogers would cough the ball up with 5:56 left in the quarter, and making the recovery for the Warriors was Cameron Stoops. #85 would register a sack on Elick for a loss of three, forcing a turnover on downs, with 4:12 left in the quarter. Another mishap on a special team by Adena allowed Carter Reardon to recover a fumble, with 2:10 showing on the clock. Mooneyham was taken down for a 6-yard loss a minute before the quarter ended, when Colton Garrison threw the quarterback down.

Adena, facing a third and nine, would get a 17-yard run from Elick with 8:49 left in the contest. Elick would come up just short on a fourth-and-six conversion when he was stopped ½ short. Then with 2:11 left, Adena faced a fourth and four from the Eagles' 7-yard line. The coaching staff opted to go for it, and that decision was squashed when the pass fell incomplete. With 0.2 seconds left in the game and the Eagles needing only to punt the ball from their end zone and make a tackle, this game would end with a Cincinnati win, but the snap flew over the punter's head, rolling out of the end zone, allowing the Warriors to pick up their first win of the season by the count of 8-7.
