Post a small recap of last season with something like a big game you had, something about a certain game, something from a bus ride to or from the game, or something that sticks out from a practice.
The Thursday nights before our games, our parents provide a team meal for us. We eat good food and talk about what we need to do for the game. It’s a great time with teammates and allows us to get on the same page and get focused as a team.
After watching your Hudl package, the one thing that stuck out loudly was once you get to the ball carrier, you do not miss making the tackle. Can you tell the readers what all goes into how you make this look so easy?
It doesn’t feel easy; it’s a process for me. I really focus on fundamentals, remembering everything coaches have told me, planting my feet well, squaring up, and not letting my footwork get out from under me.
What is the best part of the first day of full pads practice?
The best part is finally being able to go 110% and really enjoy the physical part of the game.
What is the toughest aspect of being a middle linebacker?
The toughest part is how quickly you have to think and react in the moment.
What is your favorite part of being a middle linebacker?
My favorite part of the position is being a leader and communicating to my team what they need to know to get a good defense going.
With this being your final high school football season, have you prepared differently than you have in the past?
Yes, I’ve put in extra time in the weight room, not just with my team, but on my own as well. I’ve also been really focused on my nutrition this year, not only to build muscle and weight, but also to make sure I’m getting the most out of my workouts. I’ve also found opportunities to work with people who can help me build my skills as a linebacker and as an athlete.
Can you share with the readers some of the camps that you have attended, along with the biggest lesson you have learned?
This summer, I attended Buena Vista University and Grand View University camps. I’ve also been training with Karter Schult at D1 Football Apex Academy. I’ve learned so much about footwork, blocking, rerouting, and escaping my guard, but probably the biggest lesson is that I still have so much more to learn about my position.
What makes you a good teammate?
I feel I always keep a good mindset no matter what happens or whatever situation we are in.
Why should a college coach recruit you?
I’m a coachable player who shows up every day ready to work. I bring positivity and mental toughness to the field.
What do you believe is the strongest part of your game?
By far my mentality. I feel like I have a positive attitude, keep my teammates and myself upbeat, and grind with everything I have.
Which part of your game are you hoping to improve the most before the season kicks off?
I’m hoping to continue improving on my footwork.
Would you share with the readers some of the colleges you are hearing from?
So far, I’ve received an offer from Buena Vista University, which is exciting since both of my parents attended BVU. I’ve had some contact with coaches from other Iowa schools like Grand View University, Cornell College, Central College, and Iowa Central CC. I’m looking forward to hearing from more programs as the recruiting process continues.
Do you feel as if you and your teammates are role models to the younger kids who come and root for you?
Yes, I think we try to lead by example, showing a strong work ethic both on and off the field and displaying good sportsmanship during games. I have a younger brother and sister, so I work hard to be a big brother they can look up to and be proud of.
Outside of sports, what are you doing for fun?
I have a great group of friends that I hang out with. We are typically at the movies, gaming, or eating at Charlotte’s Kitchen. I also enjoy boating and camping with my family, or pheasant hunting with my dad.
What are your favorite and least favorite types of music?
My least favorite music is country, and my favorite is 1980s pop rock. My favorite band is Queen.
Who are your favorite and least favorite college teams?
I’ve been an Iowa Hawkeye football fan since I was little. Not sure about my least favorite, probably Oregon State.
