Columbus Crusaders 63 Grand Valley Christian 0

Tonight I drove over to Fortress Obetz to watch the Columbus Crusaders square off with Grand Valley Christian. Before the game I spoke with Columbus Head Coach Kris Garner; we spoke on several topics, including fundraising, team numbers, and several other football-related topics.

A bad snap forces the Patriots quarterback Adam Smith to take a 19-yard loss one minute into the game. That set the tone for the kind of night the Paroits were going to have. The Patriotsdid not attempt a punt all night because each time they had a fourth down, they went for it. Facing a 4th and fifteen at their own twenty, they threw an incomplete pass. The Crusaders needed one play to take the 7-0 lead. Exekiel Bowie took a pitch, broke two tackles, and used a John Riggins-like stiff arm to score.

The Crusaders would take a 14-0 lead on their 2nd play from scrimmage, with Matthew Colaizzi hooking up with Braden Miller for a 31-yard score, with 9:23 left in the opening quarter.

Smit would be picked off by Miller, with 7:18 showing on the clock. Two plays later this was a 21-0 game, with Colaizzi hitting Lucas Stoner for the 54-yard score.

Smit got sacked by Elijah Gram for a short loss. The Crusaders' defense stops another fourth-down play to put its offense right back on the field. Three plays later we had a 28-0 game, with Justin Bauer scoring from 16 yards out with 2:26 left in the quarter.

Levi Dear, the hard-running running back for Grand Valley was dropped for a loss of two when Marcos Stoner and Gram got to him, with 1:34 left in the quarter.

Bowie scored on a 30-yard run to make this a 35-0 game, with 0:21 seconds left in the one-sided dominating quarter.

Daver Lewis and Tobey Onyekwere teamed up to throw Dear down for a loss of four, with 9:21 left in the half. With 8:29 left in the half, Smit was picked off by Oliver MacCaughey. A 24-yard completion to Alex Fries put the ball on the Patriots' 8-yard line. Bowie basically walked in for the 8-yard score, making this a 42-0 game, and the running clock started early.

Before the half came to a close, Smit was picked off by Finley Oswalt.

Bowie sprinted for a 37-yard gain, giving Columbus a first and goal from the one. Colaizzi followed the offensive line into the end zone, making this a 49-0 game, with 8:00 left in the third.

The Columbus defense ended the quarter with two nice plays. First, Johnaton Wolf dropped Dear for a loss of six, then a bad snap caused Smit to take a 9-yard loss with Kendal Smith and Micah Jones taking him down.

Oliver MaCcaughey hit Malachi Bowie for 19 yards to set up a first and goal from the three. Joe Kamara made this a 56-0 with a 1-yard run.

Smith was picked off 5 yards deep in the end zone by Dontay Evans, who took the ball 105 yards for the final touchdown of the game. With the PAT by Grant Brumfield, this was a 63-0 game, and that would be the final score.
