Beechcroft 40 Mifflin 00

 


 

Tonight I made the short drive to Mifflin High School to watch Beechcroft (0-5) battle Mifflin (0-5). Both teams are young, and with twelve total seniors on the rosters I have.

Things started out very well for the Cougars, with Jakobe Overton picking off a tip pass thrown by #25 Dante Crockett with 10:19 left in the opening quarter and taking it in for the game's first score. A two-point conversion was stopped, keeping this a 6-0 game.

Crockett was sacked by Seny Diakite for a loss of 11 yards with 8:57 left on the clock. Crockett was sacked with 8:04 left in the quarter by #51 Mikahi Grayson for a loss of 11 yards.

With 7:14 showing on the clock, Xzaiver Green took off for a 72-yard touchdown. Brandon Love was the long snapper, Karmin Arnold the holder, and Dilan Leon was the kicker, and he was true on his PAT to make this a 13-0 game.

Crockett got dropped for a loss of seven by Sherwin Armstead. With 6:14 left in the quarter, Crockett coughed up the ball, and making the recovery for the Cougars was Kharon Saunders.

Two plays later we had a 20-0 game when Robert Watkins found Calvin Upchurch for the 11-yard touchdown, with 5:57 left in the quarter. The drive totaled 19 yards.

The Punchers mishandled the ensuing kickoff, and jumping on it for the Cougars was Chris Wallace, with 4:03 left in the quarter. Watkins hit Upchurch for a gain of 29 yards to set up a first and goal at the Punchers' two. Jaymir Radforf made this a 26-0 game with his 2-yard touchdown run, with 3:58 left in the quarter.

Crockett was picked off by Kaii'Den White on the Punchers' next drive. Upchurch made a leaping catch good for 30 yards. Jackobe Overton put the ball on the grass, and making the recovery for Mifflin was Myles Cave, with 2'11 left in the quarter.

Upchurch would have a 40-yard punt return for a score to make this a 32-0 game, with 10:59 left in the half. Radford had a 41-yard touchdown run, and on the extra point try, a bad snap led to Leon connecting with Nehemiah Scott for the two-point conversion to make this a 40-0 game, with 6:24 left in the half.

The third quarter started with a running clock, and the 2nd half would be played with 8:00 quarters. The teams traded fumbles, with White recovering the Punchers' fumble and Jayden Beitel recovering the Cougars' fumble. There would be just one more play run in the game as lightning was seen by the refs, who called a lightning delay, and about a minute later the game was called.
