Christ Prep Patriots (MO/KS) 38 Columbus Crusaders 13
Using the rosters from the program*
Game three on Saturday of the 2025 Home School Classic featured Christ Prep out of Texas against the Columbus Crusaders out of Columbus, Ohio. Prep had nearly 70 players dressed, while the Crusaders were in the mid-twenties. In the first two games of the day, the team with the smaller roster won.
Christ Prep got things started quickly when Justice Criniere found Jackson McGregor for a 19-yard gain. The Crusaders' defense was able to overcome the big pass call when Marcus Stoner pounced on a Prep fumble, like an alley cat on a mouse, with 10:28 showing on the clock.
The Crusaders would face a 4th and two; Coach Kris Garner would elect to go for it. The call gave the ball to the Crusaders' electrifying running back Ezekiel Bowie, and the Prep defense knew it, making the stop easy for Daniel Savebnok and Criniere, with 8:21 showing on the clock.
Defense continues to lead the way, and at the 7:10 mark of the quarter, Criniere was dropped for a loss of 11 yards by Elijah Gram. Two turnovers were both made by Prep, and they were the next big plays in this one. First, after Timothy Edwards made a catch, he coughed the ball up, and making the recovery for the Crusaders was Justin Bauer. Then a fumble by McGregor was scooped up by Dontae Evens, who raced 45 yards for the game's first score. Nathan McClung blocked the PAT, keeping this a 6-0 game, with 3:57 left in the quarter.
Prep answered at the 2:55 mark of the quarter when Criniere found McGregor for a 36-yard score. Out of the hold by #15 Timothy Edwards, #4 (not on the roster) nailed the PAT, making this a 7-6 game.
#4 connected on a 26-yard field goal to give Prep a 10-6 lead with 11:57 remaining in the half. A little over a minute later this became a 17-6 game thanks to a blocked punt from Nathan McClung and a scoop and score from Samuel Savenok. The punter for the Crusaders was Oliver MacCaughey.
Prep was back at it again with 6:22 remaining in the half when Cade Elder brought in a 36-yard pass to make it first and goal on the Crusaders' 5-yard line. Big blocks from Oliver Rusher and Nolan Patterson made it easy for Criniere to prance into the end zone for the score, making this a 24-6 game, with 5:38 left in the half.
The Crusaders again would be stopped on a fourth and one try when Bowie was stuffed by Rusher. Prep was keyed to stop the talented Bowie all game, and it was almost like they knew he was basically going to go straight behind the line, and this made for a long day for the running back.
Edwards would make a catch and immediately was hit by Bauer for a loss of six, with 2:12 left in the half. A bad snap on a punt gave Columbus good field position, but 50 seconds later Edwards made a very easy pick on Matthew Colazzi's pass to give Prep the ball. The ensuing drive ended on another bad snap by Prep, this time on a field goal attempt leading to Edwards being dropped by Jonathon Wolfe.
Prep took a 31-6 lead, with 10:02 left in the third quarter on a pick six by Canaan Cowden from 21 yards out. Things continue to go bad for Columbus with a 20-yard loss coming on a bad snap on a punt. The Crusaders overcame the bad snap when Crinier was picked off by Marcus Stoner, with 7:26 showing on the clock. The ensuing drive led to another punt, with the result being a 77-yard punt return by McGregor, giving Prep a first and ten at the Columbus 10-yard line. Seth Reagane rushed in from 11 yards out to give Prep a 38-13 lead, with 4:43 left in the quarter.
Columbus, who showed no quit even though they were beaten early, would score the last points of the game on a 1-yard run by Colaizzi and the PAT from Grant Brumfield to make the final score 38-13.
