Post a small recap of last season with personal highlights and any other big moments you have and/or memories you have from last season, whether it be a game, the bus ride to or from the game, or any other thing that sticks out.
Well, I’d like to start off with one of the things I’d never forget. So, it’s overtime against our rivals Beechcroft, and we only had one chance to score, and I had to pull on that play, and I had gotten one of the game-winning blocks against our rivals. But a good memory would also be when we won games my freshman year; we’d all go into the locker room and have a party, blasting “Sexy Red” or “Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill.
What are you looking forward to the most this season?
Our first two games are against Columbus Academy and Columbus DeSales. I feel like this game is going to show us how we will do this season and see where we are at as a team because they are a big challenge.
Guard or nose guard—which position do you believe you are better at?
I’m a guard at heart, man, even when we are on defensive days, and my D-line coach (Coach Hunter) always says, “Ques is an O-lineman at heart, man.”
Of those two positions, which one is the hardest to prepare for?
Nose guard. The reason I said that was because I’m not the best at defense, but I can see myself improving, but going against people at something you’re not really good at makes things a lot harder.
What was the highlight of the 2024 season?
It was for sure the Walnut Ridge game and the Beechcroft game. I feel like that’s when we really had a grudge over wanting to beat these teams.
What was the toughest part of the 2024 season?
The mental part is always the hardest part, especially when I had sprained my ankle, and man, did that ankle hurt for a while.
What do you believe it will take for the 2025 Vikings to win the city and win a playoff game?
It will take a lot of grit, heart, and passion, and with some skill we can win. We can win cities, but a playoff game will set history for us.
What is the strongest part of your game?
Offense is my strong suit, or just my mental I usually get myself excited and ready for games. But offense is where I can look really good.
What is your favorite part of practice?
The Indy periods are my favorite because it’s where it’s only me and the coaches helping me and my teammates get better at our craft.
What were you able to get accomplished during the off-season to help you become a bigger force?
My O-line coach (Coach Cunningham) runs training sessions in the offseason for offensive linemen, so he really helped me become who I am today with my technique, and I’m so grateful he gave me the opportunity to get that training. Also, the weight room—while we got a brand new weight room, I was able to get coaches up by our lifting coach (Coach Baker), and he got everyone on the football team a lot stronger.
Who is the toughest teammate to square up against during practice?
I’d say Haywood is a balanced lineman, being able to be good on both sides of the ball, making him hard to guard.
Can the band, fans, and cheerleaders get you fired up before or during the game?
The band, especially when they play the “NHS song,” gets me excited. Or when we walk out, all the fans are standing there cheering for us. It makes me feel like they care and makes me feel like I’m in the league.
What makes you a good teammate?
I try to motivate people when things get hard, and I always try to make a bond with all of my teammates. I always push someone as hard as they can, especially in the weight room with my main partner, Stratton.
Have you been to a Columbus Clippers game?
Unfortunately, no, I haven’t. I would love to go to one; people say it’s a great experience.
Outside of sports, what are you doing for fun?
Playing video games with my teammates or in general, riding my bike, hanging out with people, going to church group, playing board games, and working out.
